There was a press released announcing the formation of a new foundation, by the Linux Foundation.

In this video I discuss how this is a big step forward in the infrastructure required for cryptocurrency. The Linux Foundation is going to start developing the open source software that will allow for the creation of interoperable crypto wallets.

Hey @taskmaster4450, here is a little bit of BEER from @pixresteemer for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that you can use BEER at dCity game to **buy dCity NFT cards** to rule the world.

Just whack the word foundation on your company and people will take it as being decentralised.

Lulz.

This could be big.
Very big!
As a Linux user for the last 22 years this is exciting for me.

This is going to be huge. This will allow so much interoperability. Trust wallet is one that allows you to have different chains, but is centered around BNB chain. But, having an open source situation like that would be really cool for people to build some cool things. Too many gatekeepers, we need more open source!

Been waiting for Linux to link up to crypto since 2017.

Wow. This is interesting. Could be a major 'killer app,' so-to-speak!

I'm glad the Linux Foundation aren't buying into the FUD and general crypto skepticism but I suppose that makes a lot of sense! It's not GNU / Linux / FOSS's first rodeo

There's probably a few, if not many, folks in that foundation who remember the Halloween documents!

Cryptocurrencies continue their development and take steps in search of the future that we all seek

This is a big step forward for the cryptocurrency industry, as it will make it easier for people to store and use cryptocurrencies. In addition, the fact that The Linux Foundation is behind the project gives it a lot of credibility.

Wow! I love these lines:

Linux claims that these tools will be critical for everyday life in the coming years.

The Linux Foundation believes in a future where people have control over their digital data, their payments, and other credentials. The release claims that the technology that they will build with the OpenWallet Foundation will empower “billions of people and small entities” for the digital future.

I think it's nice but I am not really sure I trust the people they put in charge. However, the open source part is good and hopefully people can just branch and add their own stuff if they don't agree.

I'd say this is great news! And just think about it, besides the possibility that the open source software is used by others, we might have all or many of the Linux platforms coming with a crypto wallet in their default installation in a couple of years (at least in the extended options at first).

Very good idea.

Summary:
Task presents a video discussing the formation of the Open Wallet Foundation by the Linux Foundation. He emphasizes that the foundation will focus on developing open-source software to enable the creation of interoperable wallets but not actual wallets. Task compares this initiative to the success of Linux as an open-source operating system and highlights the importance of standardization and interoperability in the cryptocurrency space. He discusses the potential benefits of having open-source software for improving security, increasing development, and enhancing ease of use in the cryptocurrency industry. Task expresses optimism regarding the potential impact of the Open Wallet Foundation in advancing the cryptocurrency sector.

Detailed Article:
Task initiates the video by introducing the announcement made by the Linux Foundation about establishing the Open Wallet Foundation to develop secure open software for interoperable wallets. He underscores the significance of this initiative, stating that it will pave the way for increased development within the cryptocurrency space. Drawing parallels to the success of Linux as the dominant open-source operating system for servers, Task underscores the potential of open-source software to drive innovation and standardization.

He emphasizes the importance of interoperability in wallets, citing examples like Metamask for EVMs but highlighting the limitations in incorporating different tokens like Bitcoin or Litecoin in the same wallet. Task draws an analogy between the standardization of web browsers for web pages and the need for a similar standard in wallets for different blockchain assets.

Task delves into the concept of open-source software providing defense against vulnerabilities, likening it to a game of defense such as whack-a-mole. He underscores the advantage of having multiple front ends to access wallets, enhancing security and accessibility. He further outlines a scenario where various projects like LeoFinance could utilize the open-source code to create customized wallets supporting different tokens and functionalities.

The video addresses the current fragmentation and lack of interoperability in the cryptocurrency space, underscoring the need for open-source solutions to address security concerns and ease of use issues. Task stresses the importance of reputable entities like the Linux Foundation spearheading such initiatives to instill trust and confidence in the community.

In concluding, Task expresses hope for the Open Wallet Foundation to drive progress and innovation within the cryptocurrency sector, emphasizing the significance of quality open-source software to ensure security and trust within the industry. He highlights the importance of transparency and reputation in choosing projects to engage with in the cryptocurrency space, emphasizing the need for confidence and reliability in wallets and applications used in the ecosystem.
