Excatly, this problem is not unique to the US either. We have the same type of problems where I live..
Yeah ideology is a tough nugget to overcome. Few are free thinkers and have the ability to look at things holistically. They do not realize they vote for what they get in many instances.
Utter stupidity but that is why corruption wins for so long. Just give them a few shiny coins for free and they will keep quiet.
