LOL an umpire is the same as a referee just a different name.
Both are meant to mediate between the two teams and enforce the rules.

Yes yes I know, but it's just the name that I found very strange. Maybe I'm already used to knowing that referees are from other sports and in baseball, they invented this strange name.
