They aren't smart. If you just looked at the GME hearings, these politicians were clueless about how things worked. Their hearings are full of people will only surface level knowledge and they are suppose to make an informed decision on something they know nothing about.

And have an agenda.
Let us not overlook that when we see people "advising" or consulting these politicians.
And then the politicians themselves have an agenda.
Any wonder the system does not work?
