2/ For decades, people paid their cable bill without knowing what they were paying for each channel. Ultimately, they simply paid one bill with the cable company paying based upon each contract.
3/ The contracts were based upon a per subscriber fee. For ESPN, which was the top dog, this was about $6 per month. That means all were giving ESPN money, whether they watched or not.
4/ This peaked in 2014. At that time, 100M people in the US had a cable subscription. That is down to 70 million today. This means a lot of money was lost. Media companies also started to get into streaming.
5/ This means the subsidy for sports fans is going away.
