Yeah. There were rumors a number of years back but could not find anything to substantiate it.
Seems like he is being pushed a bit more on this one.
Must Elon Musk do everything? I think he's excessively competitive.
He is but I think this is much more. He hates Sam Altman and believes he is a thread with has approach to AI and ignoring safety.
When Apple announced they were going to have ChatGPT as part of the core of IPhones and cannot be turned off, Musk said that is a no go.
I kind of hope so

I am ok with a duopoly if they did not restrict would I could install on my device.
If they were like my laptop and I could install anything I wanted. I would not be as concerned

Certainly a possibility with twitter to X and his direction in communications among other things.
I wouldn't be surprised if he does but I don't think it will reach mass adoption. e
