Is it insight into what is to come?

Meta is laying off 5% of its workforce. This is a continued trend across tech. Why is it happening when business is booming?

Perhaps tech companies are implementing AI and receiving the benefits.

Sort:

5% doesn't feel like a lot to be honest... With AI advancement, even at its current stage, a company could lay off 50% of itself and still function properly.

This is just another layer. They laid off a bunch in 2024. We also have to keep in mind that the funcationality of AI is still rather limited. By this time next year, the layoff might be 20%.

That's why I said 50% and not 90%!
