Question for you:
What about using usernames in comments. Like making sure I address @pitboy.
Does that do anything since it is an internal link, on here to the person's blog page?
I am asking from the SEO perspective.

According to my knowledge, all the links that redirect you to another page of the same website are internal links. Someone can easily go to my profile by clicking on @pitboy, which means creating an internal link.
Now the question is this link is useful or not. Of course, every link is useful for both users and Googlebot if you use it where it is needed. Blogger's homepage will help Google bot to crawl more related content.
But I'm focusing on the contextual links here, which means adding a link to another relevant article in your content's body. For example -
Google crawls the website using a bot named Googlebot and follows links. By following links, Googlebot can find and understand the relationship between various pages and contents. If you want to rank any article, then contextual link matters a lot!
I hope I got that right. Please let me know if you have any more queries. :) I may write an article just on - "contextual links and improve the SEO of Leofinance by using these links" later.
