There is a limit albeit it much different from the physical. In the digital world, we are bound by bandwidth and processing power. Hence, there is a limitation.
As to your main point, the ceiling is much higher. That is why you see names like Apple, Google, Facebook, and Amazon as some of the most valuable in the world. A non tech company is not really going to achieve those high levels for long. The key is they are likely to keep going higher as the network effect keeps growing.
So yes, we can have very high returns, for long periods of time. This is why people are thrown by the comparison to the returns in the "real world". The digital realm can experience orders of multitude greater than what we see in the physical.
