Researchers highlight how AI has the potential to explore countless configurations, uncovering exceptional setups beyond human discovery.
To fulfill such a mission, scientists from MPI’s Artificial Scientist Lab collaborated with an expert in super-resolution microscopy to create XLuminA, an open-source AI framework.
Designed to uncover new optical design principles, XLuminA focuses on advancing super-resolution microscopy. Acting as an AI-powered optics simulator, it autonomously explores all possible optical configurations.
“XLuminA is the first step towards bringing AI-assisted discovery and super-resolution microscopy together. Super-resolution microscopy has enabled revolutionary insights into fundamental processes in cell biology over the past decade,” said Leonhard Möckl, head of the Physical Glycoscience group at MPI, in a statement.
