Since its operations in May 2022, FRIB has positioned itself as a vital resource for scientific research domestically and internationally.

The 536,000-square-foot facility has been recognized for its timely completion and cost-effectiveness.

As a user facility operated under the DOE-SC’s Office of Nuclear Physics, FRIB is crucial for research that intersects with multiple fields, including medicine, materials science, and national security.

Since its inception, FRIB has focused on local investment, with over 94% of its procurements and labor sourced in the United States and 78% in Michigan.

Currently, the facility employs 565 individuals, including 153 graduate students and 134 undergraduates, contributing to the training and development of the next generation of scientists and engineers.
