think it really comes down to a lack of clear communication. The team didnt tell him they were going after Bregman, who played his position. They then said publically he was going to be DH only going forward. And then asked him to play first. A good leader wouldve discussed all this in advance with the player. He's been in their system long enough that they should have a pretty good idea what his temperment was. As a leader, you have to know your people and how to best appeal to them to get what you need out of them. Sure you can call Devers immature, egotistical or whatever else, and it could all be true. But ultimately it's a failure of leadership. This very likely couldve been avoided with better communication.
