I come from a working class/ lower middle class background but had friends from a very posh school. What i found was that my posh friends greatest terror was of losing their status (not living up to parents/ social expectations) so would they would be happy to lie and play games, to maintain status, whereas my working class friends' familes greatest terror was of being rejected from the community so they would never play games or lie in a way that might risk them being rejected. Community was more important to them, maybe as more of their jobs and social life was communal, i.e., factories, churches, temples, and pubs. Either way powerful or powerless, fear is the controlling emotion, a terrible way to live a life.
