They are talking about dark kitchens and restaurants. These are buildings that have no people, hence no lights, yet are run by robots who prepare the food.

I am not sure how far along some of that technology is but after the last year, we can be restaurants are looking hard at that idea.

Ohhh I understand, I have never been to a restaurant like that. Here in my country I don't think there are such restaurants.

Ohhh entiendo entiendo, nunca he ido a un restaurant así. Acá en mi país creo que no existen ese tipo de restaurantes.

They dont have them here yet either. It is technology that is being worked on. So far, they have automated some of the process but not all of it. Ordering is obviously the part that is most advanced.

Dexterity is still a problem.

I imagine, colleague, that AI still needs to go further and robots will not only be guided by knowledge, but will also be able to solve problems even if there are questions. So far only quantum computers are capable of this.

Me imagino colega, aún falta que la IA vaya mas allá y los robots no solo se guíen por conocimiento, sino que también sepan solucionar problemas aunque hayan interrogantes. Hasta ahora de esto son capaces solo las computadoras cuánticas.

AI is a lot easier than robots. Agility, dexterity, and different surfaces are all challenges for robots.

AI is software so it is much easier to navigate inside a computer. It is why that sector is advancing at such a rapid pace.

Digital can move light years ahead of the physical world.

I think there is still a long way to go before we see a robot interacting with the physical world as closely as a human does.

Creo que aún falta mucho antes de ver a un robot interactuar con el mundo físico tan parecido a como lo hace un humano.

That is true but we tend to see ways around it. Like with ordering of food. An app does not do as well as a human yet people got accustomed to ordering through it.

So they changed their behavior which ended up replacing having to call the restaurant to place an order.

We see that quite often.

And robots have difficulty but things such as chatbots are advancing at an amazing pace. That is why white collar jobs are more at risk, in my opinion, right now than blue collar.

Exactly, there are many functions that AI or in this case Apps can do that improve the user experience, they feel more comfortable and it is a faster service that I think is what interests them the most.

Exacto, hay muchas funciones que puede hacer la IA o en este caso Apps que mejoran la experiencia del usuario, se sienten mas cómodos y es un servicio mas rápido que creo que es lo que mas les interesa.

They must be looking at all possible options, this industry has been very hit by the recent pandemic and if the statistics before indicated that 90% of the new restaurants went bankrupt in the first 5 years, they must reintegrate at all costs!

They are feeling a great deal of pain right now. There is a mad rush in that industry to automate and bring in technology. The contactless service is really changing how they are thinking about things.

Ironic the solution they come up with appears to be no people = contactless. If they can get a machine/robot to do it, that solves a lot of problems (from their point of view).

The other point to take into account is if you can trust 100% to delegate responsibility to a robot, the first thing that goes through my head is how demanding diners can be, either on a whim or due to some possible allergies! and I have read cases where the owner of a restaurant has to compensate for the damage, pay a fine or, in the worst case, be imprisoned!

I guess it depends upon the robot/machine.

In the manufacturing world, machines are a lot better than humans. In the automobile realm, defects plummeted when machines came into use.

The fact of the matter is the stuff that humans can do better than machines is decreasing by the day.

And it is something that we will continue to lose ground, little were all these movies wrong that predicted that we will be replaced by Robots

Yes we cant proceeds as fast as AI can upgrade.

That is until we can somehow merge with the AI which some believe is being worked upon with Brain To Computer Interfaces.

Once that happens, the AI can outrun us since we will be tapped into them also.

Everything points there, the estimate of life grows with each new discovery or advance and it is a matter of giving time to time so that we begin to live something more similar to what happened in the comic The jetsons
