Tesla's Next Trick: Taking Over The Smartphone Industry?

There appears to be a new smartphone player ready to emerge and it is Tesla. This is something that flew under the radar. Quite frankly, I am not sure how it was overlooked unless it is a case that it was announced by Musk and most believed it was just fluff.

Thus far, we do not see much official yet there does appear to be a lot of validity to this.

We could be in for a treat when the Tesla Pi is released.

Global Mobile Communications

It is no secret that Musk's other company, SpaceX, is in the process of setting up a global Internet system using satellites. This is something that was started a couple years ago and has more than 100K users already.

From what we are seeing, it looks like this will be more than just a system that allows for Internet usage. Phone service could be one of the features it provides. For this reason, Tesla might bring out its own phone.

Here is a short introduction video:

That seems interesting but anyone can put out a promo piece. How real is this?

It seems there are some pretty impactful players involved.

Tesla's smartphone designer is Antonio De Rosa, an expert who has created exciting concepts for Apple products. The designer will make the phone in honor of Tesla and Starlink SpaceX. Many gadget market researchers note that the Tesla Model Pi looks like an iPhone 12. For example, the smartphone has four cameras in a square frame; the phone's sides are rounded with a silvery tint.

Evidently this guys is a pretty big deal. Take a look at his website to see all that he was involved in.

Also, it appears that the goal is to tie Musk's different companies together.

Here is what the phone supposedly will do:

  • The phone will support Starlink satellite internet. The developers will declare that the data download speed will be up to 210 megabits per second.

  • The phone will support Neuralink technology, which will read information from the head brain. The developers declare that in cases of injury, users will replace some of the brain functions. Such words sound like something from a movie about the future and cause delight.

  • Users can use smartphones to mine Marscoin cryptocurrency. Thus, people will be able to earn virtual money by mining on their phones.

  • The smartphone will be able to sync with other Tesla devices.

Is This All A Concept?

It is hard to distinguish what is taking place. Certainly there is a chance this is for real. Of course, it could be simply a rendering of what Musk wanted to think about and really not something they are pursuing.

One of the reasons the later could be the case is Musk does not hold back his ideas. If anything, he tends to run off at the mouth (Twitter) about what he thinks.

That said, bringing out a smartphone that ties to Starlink would make sense. Being able to connect to a global Internet system would really change the face of telecommunications. It would also put the existing players on the defensive.

Imagine the impact on terrestrial systems if this was true. Companies like AT&T and British Telecom could see a major rival suddenly enter their markets. Millions of people might find the phone service a lot cheaper than what is being paid out. After all, if Musk is seeking to drain the profits from their ISPs, why not go after the mobile carriers also?

Could this pose a problem for the likes of Apple and Samsung? The former is known to be well protected by it powerful ecosystem. However, with all that Musk is developing, he might be able to offer users a much larger system. Just think of how many Tesla owners are Apple users. Perhaps he could get a fair portion of them to switch over.

Also, if Musk is thinking in this direction, we can presume he isnt setting out to build just another smartphone. There is going to be something revolutionary about it. If not, why do it?

So what are your thoughts on this? Is there anything to this?

Before you answer, perhaps watch this 10 minute video. It is well done and explains a lot.

But again, it might just be fluff. Give us your thoughts in the comments.

Has Elon backed this phone? For some reason, I feel like this is a bit too early for Elon and I worry if we will see Tesla is trying to be a gatekeeper of the metaverse. Do we require gatekeeper there? I don't know but I am not really into seeing a company trying to dominate too many spaces because you never know when they just start aiming to control things.

I think the future will tell @taskmaster4450le

If it's true, this sounds like monopole to me. If they're the only private company with a network of satellites already built for highspeed internet and which will be used for telecom too, they will have no competition.

Is this for real??

This thing is scary... If it goes out with all the goodies, especially the mining feature, I bet it will be sold out in seconds and I also believe Tesla stocks will simply sky rocket.

If Tesla produce a smartphone, I bet it won't be just a smartphone. I think it will cause troubles for Samsung and Apple.

Well, he has starlink, 6G. might as well take into smartphone industry.
