How do these bots contribute to the value of the network?
Isn't the purpose of an upvote, that it has been deemed valuable by a reader? (as opposed to fishing for buzzwords to fulfill upvoting bot criteria?)

Yes true. But most of the people follow up-voters who definitely vote after checking manually and only vote quality posts such as Leofinance
