When Code is the Law

Let me tell you about this new documentary movie that is currently trending in the crypto space. This documentary movie is called "Code is Law", directed by James Craig and Louis Giles. it is a documentary that dives into the wild, and dark side of the Blockchain. This film is not just something about Blockchain technology, but a gripping exploration that asked a big question in the decentralized finance world. The focus of the film is on the question "if code is law, who decides what is just?"

The film is currently streaming on Apple TV+, Amazon prime video, and YouTube movies, and looks like a courtroom drama l, but without a traditional courtroom, and no physical judge. Instead, the code is the judge itself and there's no appealing its verdict.

The opening scene of the film starts with a thought provoking question; "If a smart contract on a Blockchain has a loophole that allows for exploitation, is it a case of theft, or just a clever use of the system?" The documentary will bring you right behind the scenes of some well-known crypto security hacks, as real video footage and interviews expose the danger that lies within a new era.

The main story of the film revolves around the DAO hack happened in 2016 because this was a turning point for Ethereum. Due to a loophole in The DAO's code, more than $160 millions evaporate overnight within few hours. Which made the developers realize that even if they are in control of operations, operating code systems will always be effected by humans.

Panama Rescission, DeFi Revival brought about Andean MedjedovicAndean Medjedovic hacking exploit by defying Indexed Finance and KyberSwap protocols to move millions. His reason for the action was; “The code allowed it.” While the film paints him in a rosy portrait as a trailblazer, it also serves as warning tale reminding us that this is how great ideas are held back from reaching their potential by financial systems.

Then the documentary continues to explain the entire DeFi ecosystem and how today's decentralized network still has security vulnerability. Most of these security events lead to deterrents an auspicious jail time permit is not and cannot keep pace with technological because it has yet to be adopted by the legal system. Hackers can therefore continue to act under the banner of "code is law" in cyber space.

I enjoy the way the movie examines the morality of these problems. There are those that say that the blockchain does not lie. In case you lose the tokens then it is your fault since you did not keep the code. Other individuals such as lawyers and victims tell you that you cannot add ethics to Solidity.

Code Is Law is good because it does not favor one side. It leaves you in an uncomfortable situation and questions whether putting your full trust in code is being free or going mad.

There is also one of the harsh realities of crypto in the movie: its eternal nature is the same strength and the same issue. With the rise of blockchain development, we have to come to the realization that the future of money is not only about faster transactions and smart contracts. It is being responsible in an era where code cannot be ashamed.

In‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ the end, Code Is Law has all the qualities of being clever, challenging, and up-to-date with the current issues. Such a film could be appealing to both kind of people: those who are very deep in the crypto world and those who just happen to be curious. The film is not really about hacks but rather shows the losses of people who try to make the code flawless. After watching the film, the question remains in your mind: if there is a code that rules, then who will protect us from that ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌law?
