5 Deutsche Mark (1975, Europäisches Denkmalschutzjahr)

What's up plebs?

After a quick stamp break I am back with yet another small silver coin from Germany. I think I'll be switching between the two to keep things more interesting!

Anyways, let's see today's treasure

As you can see, it's a 5 mark coin from 1975. Now, before doing any googling and shit I always like to take a guess of what's the coin about.

This one seems to feature buildings or some shit so my guess is that it's maybe some short of architecture commemoration coin?

Well, close enough!

Turns out this coin is a commemorative piece for the European Year for the Protection of Historic Monuments.

This was an initiative first started in 1975 with the goal to promote the cultural heritage of all European countries:

Thanks to the Council of Europe's initiative in declaring 1975 European Architectural Year, considerable efforts were made in every European country to make the public more aware of the irreplaceable cultural, social and economic values represented by historic monuments, groups of old buildings and interesting sites in both town and country

Ok, let's see the coin from some more angles:

Despite being almost 50 years old, it looks super shiny as if it just came out of the mint ^-^

Oh, almost forgot. It comes with an engraved edge

received_175467955641659.jpeg

It reads EUROPÄISCHES DENKMALSCHUTZJAHR 1975 for European Monument Protection Year. Pretty straight forward so no explanation needed here.

When it comes to silver, the coin weights 11.2 g with a purity of 0.650. That's exactly 7 grams of silver. I believe the rest is copper, at least that's typically the case with those commemorative german pieces from that era.

Generally I prefer coins that look a bit more "epic" but this one falls more a bit more on the artistic side but I happen to like the design of this one 😀 And it has a cool imperial eagle.

All in all, I like it. 🥰

😂😂😂😂

The coin looks dope...
Has your photography skills gotten better?
Or it's just dumb luck😂😂😂

You mean the swadow? Yeah that was accidental lmao 😂 But I do put more effort these days. I still use natural light (sun) from the window so some times the photos are better or worse depending on luck 😅

😂😂😂

a bit of meh topic for a commemorative coin, but that Austro-Hungarian coin in the background is more interesting from my Eastern European plebeian perspective :)

That was a great gift @alexvan gave me in a recent gay parade we attended

gay parade we attended

did you pack some fudge afterwards :))) ?

That's a cool coin! In great condition! I wish they were cheaper here in the US, they tend to run higher in price here.

Yeah, I guess it makes sense not many made their way across the Pacific so they are harder to come by

Very interesting design, you for a lot of dope looking silver bud

If it only it was gold 😨🧐

Some of them may pass the gold test on the sigma you should get one 🤣

I am waiting for hive to hit 100$, then I'll get one for free by you 😅😂

Oh shit you still remember 🤣 I'm just messing I would actually do it

It all adds up, even if it is German silver…… you’re favorite

Slowly unplebing myself!

Pretty cool Coin!
Got myself some 5 Deutsche Mark too this week!

Sweet! I love my 5s and 10s marks 🥰 Can't wait to see what you got

That coin is in great shape for its age! I'm a sucker for coins with engraved/stamped edges. Great pick up!

That's why I love getting German commemoratives. They all have a cool eagle, a unique design and always engraved! And they are always close to spot ^_^

Nice coin. It looks great even if it is 50 years old.

Commemorative coins are a special feature because they are printed on special occasions. They look very nice and are very well designed.

A coin that is over 50yrs is looking so neat
That's some cool maintenance

I love old coins very much, as I see that the old taste cannot be replaced, as you see sparkle, beauty, and creativity.

I don't have much foreign currency only what I pick up in my travels. I need tp get some marks they are pretty cool.

Whenever I see these pretty coins, I just wish to have such a beautiful collection.

This looks great. Time to ask the question everyone's been wondering. What is this worth? I'm asking for a friend who wants be gollum
