Finally, my first morgan!

in LeoFinance2 years ago (edited)

It's been what? Two years now since I started to accumulate silver? And although I have now over 100 oz in coins and bullions, probably closer to 150, I still hadn't bought a Morgan dollar, one of the most popular stacking options 😂

Well, it was about time to add one of the most popular stacking coins in my collection!

Here's what I got in my mail today:

As you can see my Morgan is from 1890 and has certainly seen some better days 😅 In case you wonder, I paid 30 euros for it, with the postal and capsule and everything. Sure, a lot more then I wanted considering its condition, but I opted to order one from a high trust eshop to ensure I wouldn't get a counterfeit. Unfortunately, there are too many fakes out there so better safe then sorry 😅

In case you are not familiar with Morgan dollars, the tldr is that they are a United States dollar coin minted from 1878 to 1904, in 1921, and beginning again in 2021 as a collectible. Wikipedia has a great page about them that covers pretty much everything there is to know!

Silverwise, every Morgan dollar has a weight of 26.73 g, with a purity of 0.900. That amounts to 24 grams of pure silver. With today's spot price at 0.81, that's 20 $ worth of metal! Which is funny considering that you can use one as a regular one dollar coin. Yep, they are technically still in circulation. Imagine getting one in your change 😂

To sum up, they are large, heavy and have plenty of silver!

So, yeah my first and probably the last Morgan. One for the novelty is enough :)

Nice coin. How often do you get fakes?

When I buy something I know is regularly counterfeit I buy from a trusted source. So hopefully never... 😅

Oh nice. You got an actual Morgan Dollar. I’ve only replicas in 1oz rounds.

Meh, if it is silver and looks the same who cares 😂

That’s an awesome buy, and that was a pretty good price even in that condition. Here’s one from a sold eBay auction that’s in similar shape as yours. The auction sold price with shipping was $31.06.

Thanks for welcoming me fren 😂

Its classic but looks heavy on weight. Do you gift these coins to your family or relatives on some special ocassons? 😂

Actually yes! But usually cheaper ones 😅

Looks like GOAT 🐐 of Silver coins.. 30€, I guess it is the most expensive one in your collection or there's else one?

Solid one!

From the standard circulation coins yes, it's probably the most expensive!

This coin is real and look so beautiful.

Always glad to see people's Silver coins holdings. All these coin's looks so beautiful and amazing but eagle design coin i like the most. Thanks for sharing.

30 euros? That seems like you got a deal. My image is that they are a lot higher usually. Or maybe the coin shop here just over prices American coins....
