Hello fellow stackers. Today I wanted to introduce you to this Portuguese silver coin that I bought in a small shop in Viana do Castelo on one of the many trips I've made to Portugal. I won't say it's my second home because I already live in a different country from the one I was born in, but without a doubt Portugal is one of my favorite places, especially the north of Portugal.
It was a trip a few years ago to do some scuba diving and some surfing. But not everything can be beach and Viana do Castelo is a beautiful place that invites you to walk and wonder a little. In one of those streets I found a small antique shop that sold different things made of silver. Among them several coins. I got hold of a small lot among which this coin from the Azores stood out. Curiously, in some of the trips I have made to the Azores I have not been able to find this same coin.
It is a curious coin with good size and good weight. It is made with the dam minting technique and that makes it possible to say that each coin is unique. And it is that at that time the dams were not very precise. It is and the fact that it did not have a large circulation makes it a rare coin, although I do not know if it is very valuable because I have never started to look for its numismatic value.
