RE: Interrupting my 'A4A project' for some MIGHTY news...Trump, and taxes...

I wouldn't get that excited about it, even if it stands it will probably be capped to a certain level of earnings. This does seem like a more equitable way to help people even if only temporary as it reaches everyone unlike unemployment benefit extra that only gives relief to the unemployed of hundreds of extra bucks while those still working get nothing to help them out. Many people have to hire sitters now that kids aren't in school and the cost of food has been rising. I think the first thing they will try and do though is throw an injunction at him using the court system. First thing they did was attack that this would hurt social security and medicare but it said payroll tax...does that extent to the SS and medicare tax I have no idea. I guess one of the big questions with this also would be does congress have control over money that hasn't been collected yet...if not then there's probably not much they can do. With the extra unemployment he said he was taking it out of already established funding for emergency covid relief so if congress didn't draw up specific guidelines for how that could be spent then I think he will be okay.

(can't think of any other very oblique and meaningless one liners right now..)

Yup that does meet the requirements for being oblique and meaningless.

I just read an article and it said pretty near what I said, he can allocate the emergency funding for covid for unemployment as there was no formal outline as to what that emergency funding could or could not be used for. The tax issue I haven't heard anymore on.
