RE: Through the Oil Palms: Journey to La Palmera Mountain Ridge, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat

It looks cool but in Malaysia and Indonesia, this oil palm business has been a total disaster for local nature and wildlife. That´s actually the main reason why many people here in Europe don´t buy any food that contains palm oil. I hope your country would go for more sustainable way of doing that ;)

I have seen some documentaries that they levelled virgin forests and orangutan habitats just to plant oil palms. Here, it's mostly grasslands and denuded ravines. I'm not sure if they are doing it in a sustainable way.

Yeah, the orangutans became the (sad) symbol of the oil palm business but destroying the original forests and unique ecosystems put many other animal and plant species in danger or even brink of extinction in those areas... Glad to know that the impact is not so devastating in your country. Yet.

I know the impact to the local wildlife is already devastating regardless of the initial state of the land. Imagine removing all the local flora and fauna just to introduce a monoculture that's not even native to the area.
