The Jamuna bridge officially known as the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Multipurpose bridge is one of the most important infrastructures in Bangladesh. Before the construction of Jamuna bridge people had to rely on ferries to cross the river which was often time consuming and unreliable due to weather conditions. The Jamuna bridge is about 4.8 kilometres long, making it one of the longest bridges in South Asia. It is a multipurpose bridge because it supports road traffic, railway lines, gas pipelines and telecommunication cables.It stands today as a symbol of human determination and engineering excellence. However maintaining the bridge is also important. Regular inspections and repairs are necessary to ensure safety and longevity. The government continues to invest in its maintenance to keep it functioning efficiently for future generations.
