They're for breathing, living, and being human again
I honestly don't believe in working on weekends, It feels wrong, like breaking an unspoken rule between yourself and your peace of mind, after all, what's the point of spending five full days buried in work if you can't give yourself two days to reset? Life isn't meant to be lived inside a schedule. Sometimes you just need to pause, and enjoy a slow morning - no alarms, no pressure, just silence and maybe a good breakfast that isn't rushed.
Now, I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, life doesn't always go by our plans, and sometimes urgent work creeps into the weekend, maybe a deadline suddenly shifts, or something important needs attention before Monday. I get that - it happens. But those should be rare cases. not the norm, If you're always working on weekends, there's something off-balance. You're not just managing time anymore; you're letting work steal it and the truth is, nobody really likes a workaholic, There's a difference between being dedicated and being consumed. You can't keep pouring from an empty cup, and that's exactly what happens when you don't take time off. The weekend is like your cup refilling moment - where you gather new energy, fresh thoughts, and maybe a bit of laughter from the people you care about, because in the end, what's the point of success if you're too exhausted to enjoy it?
I think that saying, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" hits harder as you grow older. It's not just about being dull; it's about losing the spark that makes life colorful. The little things -- like watching a movie, going out with friends, sleeping in, or just doing absolutely nothing -- those are the quiet joys that reset your mind. A wise man once said and I quote; "There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and find enjoyment in his hard work, this too is a gift from God."
So yeah, for me, weekends are off-limits for work unless it's a matter of urgencu. The weekdays carries all the stress they want, but once Friday night comes, that's my cue to step back and live a little, after all, balance is what keeps everything in place and weekends are a big part of that balance.
