RE: I'm fucken done! Goodbye

Hope you have a great vacation.

What do you mean that the environments can be unforgiving to those that can't 100% focus? Like, is there actual danger of physical harm, or is it more that the company expects focus and attention to detail?

I've had jobs where personally making mistakes would be catastrophic, and other jobs where I'm more advising others and yeah, I'm able to lock in pretty well when the stakes are high but can be pretty casual when they're not.

Sort:

Exactly, some workplaces I've operated in have been unforgiving and the result of a lack of focus could easily be personal injury or death; @krazzytrukker can confirm that he works in one such environment.

Someone who flies for a job, military, a surgeon, the mechanic fixing someone vehicle brakes, first responders, Bondi Beach surf lifesavers...there's probably thousands of jobs that require 100% focus I think...the engineer who designs a bridge over a chasm is yet another example.

Luckily I've never worked in a situation where mistakes made might endanger people, but we also create processes where work gets checked and rechecked to catch anything that might cause an expensive mistake.

I've never caused anything dramatic myself, but I have had to fix really big issues very quickly which can be exhilarating and terrifying all at once.

I'm of the opinion that a person getting paid to do something should give it 100% and that usually means 100% focus also; if not for the greater good, then for their own self respect.

Totally understand where you're coming from, and I'm glad you've found something that works for you, but you can only control what you can control... and so if that's your expectation for everyone else then you're only going to be disappointed. The reality is that the world is far more nuanced and complex and there is an endless number of scenarios where 100% focus is not possible or not their priority... and that's fine, it takes all kinds.

My team all perform at a high level fortunately and those that do not tend to drift away, there's no disappointment. Those underwhelming people find their way elsewhere and that's great, it takes all kinds, even mediocre ones.

Yeah, there is nothing better than a high functioning team. My last team was awesome and I learnt a lot from my boss on how to create your own high functioning team which I hadn't really thought about previously.

That's it exactly, the 100% focus on improvement, development and growth. No one operates at 100% all the time but a team can deliver at a high level if everyone is focused on trying to.

I am thinking I will probably pull a few more short hauls before the years end. Traffic will be brutal and I may have to dig deep and give it...

Fuck bru, you at 110% - Could such a stupendously amazing thing even happen?

I think so.

Don't stop at 110% though, push on towards 111%.

I hit 113 one time way back when. Got a nosebleed and a migraine. Had to back it off a click or two.

Yeah man, they say never go full retard, and the same goes for percentage. One must be cautious of the adverse effects of high percentalism.
