Talking Instruments. [WE: 109]

"Instruments already talk. They tell so many things during any performance. If they did talk like us, imagine what they could say. The prospect feels me wonder and terror at the same time."

Instruments are a weird thing. Wood living after a tree has been cut. Maybe it was made into furniture or a house. Then, after years, timber was reshaped into a tool. A tool which purpose is to translate into sounds emotions.

That's the weird thing about instruments. As a musician, once you have heard s lot of them played, you can spot the differences between the same instruments and some of other family. However, imagine something like this little box with strings, or that drum, a piano or else could actually talk.

For starters, it would be hilarious. I image instruments as cranky old people. Why? Simple. Wood had to spend years drying in order to be suitable for this. A lot of other materials used in luthierie follow the same pattern. So, the first thing that comes to mind is an instrument at a music school complaining about being played too hard. And most likely, they would complain at how much we suck when we start learning to play. 🤣

They could do stand alone shows. A stand-up comedy about instruments complaining about the stereotypes of musicians. Maybe these ones are annoyed of all the smoke from weed and else. Others about their drunken owners. Pawnshop instruments complaining about being too much time in a shelf. Luthier-made instruments feeling themselves fancy and factory instruments talking about the former. So many things that could be hilarious!

I also imagine the love they would be able to express. Imagine an old guitar telling the story about their first owner. How many road trips, adventures, and gigs, love stories, tears and else. Imagine this being told through generations as the lifespan of a well-made instruments goes far beyond human expectancy.

They could also share some knowledge of thing we aren't aware about vibrations and else. Bet you they would tell you the stories about that time they had a repair that didn't work. And also about the first time they talked just fresh about of the workshop or factory.

I imagine their voices would be similar to their timber. For strings instruments, that would mean having bright voices if their tops are made of Spruce and deep rich voices if Red Cedar is on display. And also, luthier-made instruments growing nostalgic and asking to call their parents to cure their homesickness.

It sounds lovely.

Now imagine if they could only talk in the sound they actually made. Don't know about you but that would be terrifying. Imagine going back home and listening to some ominous cello or violin sounds coming from your bedroom. Drums playing during siesta time. What about metals? Those things wouldn't be able to talk in any other volume than high or higher.

I think this could make the job of musicians pretty difficult. Because instruments could complain about being touched too much among so many other things.

Fortunately, this isn't the case. But the pros and cons would be hilarious and nightmare fuel altogether.

This has been my entry. Do you think instrument would do other things if they could talk? Do you think it could be a good or bad thing? Let me know in the comments and as always, have a great weekend!

Imagine a music room and all the instruments talking at the same time with their original sound...crazy!😂

I don't need to imagine that. I've been in an orchestra during rehearsal. That's basically how it goes 100% of the time 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, pretty much my reaction the first time.

I think that the instruments give or make sound our feelings. If they could speak, they would surely tell all our sorrows, anguish, sadness and happiness... hahaha untitled.gif

I think they would also tell when they have reached their peek of potential. That would be interesting as well.

I loved this post as you got me thinking a lot hahaha.

You know what came to my mind if this were so, that time I started playing the keyboard hahahahahaha, what did that poor instrument think? Maybe, Hey "Boluda" not like that xD HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I also think about how scary it would be if they could talk or I don't know, I imagine a guitar also hitting me in the head because of how bad it would be!

What do you think?

Cheers buddy!!! Excellent entry!

I think it would be as funny as terrifying. Theresa a lot that could go wrong about instruments talking. Imagine if they get sick of us and stratt making music on their own or stop making music. That would be fatal.

😅

Quite a thought, instead of us sounding off playing an instrument, the instrument lets us know the state of health it is in by tuning up and giving us direction on feelings.

!LUV

Well, that's a thing I didn't consider. But instruments are like like tuning forks. So, this concept of it nowing our feelings by touch is a beautiful idea.

Seriously could be!

Indeed. They could do so much to help people heal from emotional trauma or at least be there for diagnosis.

String it out, them strum it up, solution. PSD is very real in this world today!

If they did talk like us, imagine what they could say.

No one knows as much about me as do my piano. If it could talk, it would make me laugh and cry heavily!

If instruments could talk, perhaps we would know truly well how the secrets of the old music giants: Mozart, Bach, Chopin, Beethoven, Elvis, and etcetera.

It's another interesting idea. There's so much that's kept hidden about musicians. But I wonder if such a breach would remove the mysticism around these figures. I remember that saying that goes about never meet your heroes. Maybe it wouldn't be so good.

However, talking to your own instruments and laughing at loud from all memories and story would be nice.

hahaha I picture guitars being grumpy men as well as they never do what you want them to do. I want to play Rory Gallagher and all I can get is twinkle twinkle little star!! Maybe its me though. ...

Ha, ha, ha, ha. I bet only acoustic guitars are like that since they have metal strings and are always tense. I imagine classical guitars being more refined.

I imagine that guitar complaining because you don't play anything else than Twinkle Twinkle little Star. Now, imagine they for some reason do it in a Scottish accent. 🤣

"Oi mate, enough with dis shite..."

always reminds me of this guy!! 😂

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Instruments speak already as you said. Music or sounds from instruments is so amazing when done well. If they started talking by themselves that could be another thing based on their experiences. Gosh I do not want to imagine.

It isn't the best thing to imagine. There's too many dirty secretary between musicians and their instruments. A breach in those relationship would be horrible.
