Early Sex Education

The young people in this generation are inquisitive. They don't ever want to be left in the dark. With the progression of technology and the internet, getting information is made easier than ever.

If a piece of information is not passed at the right time or on the right time to a child, that child has the probability of living in ignorance for a long time. I'm saying this because we have a whole lot of means of accessing information as humans. Most times, we don't even ask for some information before they get to us. This is what the internet has made possible. I can testify to the fact that most times, some notification pops up on my phone and due to how inquisitive I am, I am tempted to check it out.

For children, they get to see and hear a lot of things. When you don't pass an information to them and something else or someone else does, they will live with that piece of information for a long time

I think sex education should begin from age 6. As long as the child can understand how to read and write, the child should be schooled on sex.

**MY REASONS**

Ignorance is no excuse. For as long as the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. If you teach your child about sex at an early stage it saves them from making mistakes that could be avoided.

Here is a real-life scenario of an incident that happened in my neighbourhood some years ago. This little girl of six years old was abused by a married man who had a son almost her age.

How it happened was that she was lured by the man into his bedroom while his wife was in the kitchen. The wife noticed the sudden silence and decided to find out what was happening inside. On entering the room, she saw her husband on this girl. She was pained but scared of telling the mother of the child what happened. The mother of that child noticed some cuts on her daughter's private part while bathing her. She asked her daughter what happened and how comes she was injured down there. The child could not explain in detail what happened but she could at least describe the scenario that played out. When the man was confronted by the little girl's parents, he denied doing such and claimed it could be children of her age group that did that to her. To cut a long story short after much investigation, it was discovered that he did it.

If only that baby was well educated about sex, she'd have known the moment the man began making moves what was about to happen.

Secondly, I know of a 16-year-old girl that was raped. She was scared of telling her parents about it and decided to keep it to herself. She had no idea about ECPs.

Sadly, she was at her embryonic stage and was not aware that was pregnant. Aunty was busy treating Malaria. It was neighbours that began to notice it and she was asked to run a pregnancy test. That was when she knew what was happening to her. If only she was well educated about sex, she would have known what to do and how to go about it. Imagine having a baby at that age, It is so sad to experience such a young age.

Educating young people about sex early helps in providing accurate and relevant information about human sexuality and how to handle such situations.
