Indeed! I put it in the same category as questions like "Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?"

Why is 22 called twenty two, 33 called thirty three and so on...But...11 isn't called onety one? 111 not called one hundred and onety one?
A mystery for the scholars to unravel.

My favorite response to any variation of 'pick a number' is elventy-eleven but my teachers did not approve...
Eleventy eleven is a good number. One doesn't hear it much but when one does, it's pleasing to ones ears.
