Spend it all at once

I remember when I was a kid, when on one occasion my grandmother gave me a small coin and very seriously said "List everything at once".

It was such a small denomination, probably half as much as this red one is today, that spending it in a day, an hour, a minute, or perhaps best to say a few seconds was very certain.

I paid for five video game chips or three pool chips with that bill.
Some candy, juice or some snack, I couldn't calculate if I would buy even one chips.

And this red one, which today has a value of 10 USD, is suitable for the topic that galenkp has given us for this weekend.

What would you do this weekend if your entire spending budget was $10 and you had to spend it on entertainment?

It would not be a weekend of fun, but a weekend where I would have to demonstrate the art of survival.

Considering that for one red (1000 dinars or $10), in the city where I live, I can eat half a portion of burritos and drink a bottle of water, I think that, after the end of that weekend, I would wake up hungry, thirsty and ready to write about another topic this week:
What was your worst weekend experience
A weekend I had to survive on $10 and have fun doing it?

This half portion is not ordered for this reason ($10), but since we don't like to waste food, we order as much as we can eat.
My portion was whole, and without any entertainment during the weekend, I could afford it if I took the money for two weekends, i.e. two red...

Before I write how I could have fun all weekend with $10 in my pocket, I could write what I wouldn't do that weekend.

I wouldn't wake up early in the morning on Saturday to go shopping (because $10 isn't even enough for groceries for one meal, let alone weekend shopping), I wouldn't go for a long walk, because when I walk, I sometimes drink some juice, eat something sweet.

I would walk around the neighborhood between the buildings, like a stray dog 🙂

I wouldn't arrange to go to one of the cafes where I regularly drink coffee or the pastry shop where I eat cakes or ice cream.
I wouldn't go to the store and buy waterproofing coating for the patio, which I planned to repair tomorrow (because that coating alone costs 3 reds).

I wouldn't buy the beer I like to taste when I'm not working, because besides beer I wouldn't have money for bread either.

I probably wouldn't even go to my friend's birthday, to our favorite restaurant that we go to regularly, because I wouldn't be able to buy him a present, for which I usually need 5 reds.

While listing what I wouldn't do this weekend, I listed what I plan to do 🙂 which is again related to another topic:
What are you doing, or have you done, this weekend.

And if I really had to spend the whole weekend with only $10, I would probably take a little walk in nature (although the weekend is predicted to be low temperature and rain), to breathe in the fresh, non-office air, for lunch I would cook some soup with which I could fill my stomach for those two days, I would crawl under the blanket and binge watch series on Netflix (which was paid for before I stayed on $10).

If I could count on $10 from my partner, that would be something...

With $20, I would buy some more groceries, cook some slightly tastier meal for two days for two of us, pop a full bowl of popcorn, make pancakes (sprinkled them with sugar, because I wouldn't have enough money for Nutella), make tea and spend the whole weekend walking with her around the neighborhood, to freeze a little in this harsh weather and temperature of 8°C, and then go home, in a poorly heated apartment (because the heating season hasn't started yet and the heating plant is only doing warm tests remote heating), crawled under the blanket and spent the rest of both days watching series and movies on TV.

Which wouldn't be so bad, right?

Sort:

It was actually nice reading the part where you mentioned the thing you wouldn't do if really you want to stay on the $10 budget and the I would walk around the neighborhood between the buildings, like a stray dog 🙂 sounds so funny 😂

For a fact, $10 is not enough for a cool weekend but we can still get something to do with it to entertain ourselves

The problem is that, growing up (in case $10 is a small thing to us today), we forgot how as children we spent whole weeks, and maybe even months, almost without a single dollar, playing with friends on the street or somewhere in nature.
How much money do you need to go on a trip to a forest, under a tent, with your friends and teenagers on Saturday morning? by a lake or river with fishing poles and a ball, with three muffins and a can of pate, on which you can spend two days, until Sunday afternoon?
I bet that 30 years ago I could have done something like that with $2 or $3..
And today, when I am a slave to habits and have some different desires and needs, I need 10 times more.

Like seriously seriously

Living as a child was the sweetest experience one could ever have with little or no worries.
Imagine that kind of a simple but meaningful way of spending weekend as a child that you just stated of which would create lasting memories but now we are so much occupied with more desires that even cost us way beyond.

To even have that time or create one to spend with friends and family now become a serious task to execute

This is a beautiful read. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks
I'm glad you liked it 🙂

You're welcome. Yes I love it.

But eating a whole meal is kinda like an entertainment too right? Coz we get to enjoy the fun, had fun choosing what to eat first, like that. Haha.

A walk outside is fun too, we'll surely get entertained with it. And it's cheap, you can enjoy nature, the trees, every plants somewhere, the flowers and the bees. Anyways, the whole idea for the whole weekends sounds really fun. Just doing all the fun things.

Ba, money sucks. Sorry you're so skint - I know the feeling. I hope $20 floats your way. Sounds freezing!

🙂
I'm not really in such a tight spot that $10 is a bill as big as a house, I wrote on the topic "what would I do with $10", because this weekend I'll probably spend at least 5 times more...

I started spending last night, after writing the post, when I went by car to my favorite pastry shop and spent 2 red bills to treat myself to ice cream.
Now I'm going to buy a present for a friend, the question is how much it will cost me...
