The places most in need of social and humanitarian aid are hospitals and health centres, where we see countless cases, not only because of their severity but also because of their socio-economic impact.
A few months ago, I was admitted to the hospital in my home state due to severe dehydration during my pregnancy, and I saw some very delicate cases in the maternity ward, involving girls aged 11 to 15.
Because they were minors, the mothers, who accompanied their daughters who were 7 to 8 months pregnant, spent those long nights sleeping in the same bed with them, which was extremely uncomfortable! And once dawn broke, they would leave the room and spend the day outside, hoping that someone would take pity on their daughters and give them something to eat or simply offer some social assistance during the inevitable shifts and supervisions.
How awful! Right?
Why am I bringing this up? Of the six patients who were there, only two looked around when it was time to eat or get the vital liquid of water, which is an odyssey to obtain due to rationing.
They weren't afraid to ask, but what stood out most was the conformism that reigns without any shame, which is a very sad situation.
I'm the kind of person who, when I'm eating something, even if it's just an orange, I share it. I don't have the heart to eat and have people look at me with envy. It's not in my nature to do that.
Or simply, if I see that the situation is very difficult and I have the means, I help without thinking twice. At home, we were taught that where one person eats, two can eat. It's all about wanting to.
It seems simple, but not everyone has the virtue of sharing without expecting anything in return, because nowadays selfishness and a lack of empathy reign supreme.
So, more than once, I would order my food and then call back shortly afterwards to ask for more.
Without overlooking the professional aspect, there is a bit of everything, with malpractice reigning supreme and traumatising more than one person due to their patient care.
Currently, Venezuela is experiencing an economic situation (colloquially speaking) that is tight because every coin earned is not enough, and it is necessary to carry out various activities to get by, but with sacrifice and perception, everything can be achieved.
Today's youth are very rebellious and do not analyse each action, and the consequence is a high birth rate, in a circle of mediocrity.
Supporting and raising awareness among patients is vital because no one knows the problems in each home, which is why we must focus our energies on what we can build, not on what we lack. Unity is strength.
Anecdote: When we want to serve, we don't make excuses, we offer solutions.
