Catch them young at early age through sex education

in Weekend Experiences23 days ago (edited)

If you look at the world around us today, everything is becoming so quickly exposed due to technological advancement. What you don't teach or learn from home can be inculcated through the internet.

It is so sad to see so many things going wrong nowadays among teenagers and youth across the globe. Well, what will become the AI generation of tomorrow is yet to be known.

Aren't you curious about how little children navigate life through the internet? A lot of things they learn through the internet, some are meaningful while some are dangerous.

At what age should sex education begin?

What is sex education? Sex education is a way of imparting knowledge about body development, sexuality, and relationships.

Do we need a certain age? No! Remember, we are in the days of computer and internet age.

Introducing sex education for young people can begin at any age so far as the child can communicate.
As a mother, I started teaching my children sex education as early as 2 years old. I told her certain parts that nobody should be allowed to touch except mummy.

We have a song in my house and here are the lyrics👇👇

My body belongs to me
It belongs to only me
It is mine and not yours

If you touch my private part I will tell
If you touch my private part I will tell
I will tell it to my Mummy and Daddy
If you touch my private part

What do you do to your private part?
I will cover it, protect it
If you try to touch

It is so funny how molestation of a child has been an order of the day in my country to the extent that this molestation starts from close relatives like father, brother, and uncle among others.

I was privileged to be in a teenager's program held by my church some months ago. The confessions coming out from these teenagers were surprising. How both siblings have been sexually abusing each other under the roof of their parents and they care not to know. How some had abortions. How their fathers have been abusing them sexually and threatening them not to say a word to anyone. What about fake uncles who get them gifts just to have their way? All these happened because there was no sexual education given to them. Ignorance led them astray or the negligence of their parents took away their values.

It is important to educate your children about sex. An adage says charity begins at home Inform them on what they need to know for example; respecting their personal space, body movement, touching and smooching, the danger signs, precautions, and safety measures.

     Why sex education?

There are lots of reasons why sex education is important in our homes, environments, communities, and around us.

Every teaching and learning starts from homes before it extends.
I taught my babies (a boy and a girl) on how they should always cover up, not allow anybody see their private parts. Each time I want to dress up, maybe my husband is inside the bedroom, they will be cautioning me on how I should not expose myself to their Daddy 🤣🤣🤣
They: Mum, Dad is inside🤣
They: Dad, please excuse mom to dress up please 🤣🤣

They cannot allow anyone bath for the them or see them while dressing. Both are now 9 and 5years.

Here are a few reasons based on my opinion 👇

Curiosity and inquisitiveness: Children nowadays are generally curious about their body parts and the differences between the opposite genders.
My baby girl asked why I have breasts and some other parts and why she does not have🤔 I explained. Whatever good information we give will help them do the right thing👌

Prevention: Early sex education helps children or young people with the knowledge of the dangers associated with pre-marital sex, for example; it can lead to self-destruction, unwanted pregnancy, Staphylococcus transmitted infection (STI), Humane Immuno Virus (HIV), and emotional trauma. Prevention is better than cure

Safety measures: Early sex education helps children understand the Dos and Don'ts of sexuality. This will help them recognize and report any form of abuse or molestation around them. It is crucial to empower young people to seek safety measures against any form of immorality.

Set boundaries: Sex education allows them to set boundaries as regards the opposite sex. This can help in developing equitable attitudes toward the opposite sex. Setting boundaries allows the young to know what's best for them as regards healthy and meaningful relationships, when to fall in love, and when to have sex.

Prevention of online surfing: It is from the internet that young people are bombarded with messages about sex and relationships. They are exposed to sex on the internet, pornographies, and others. It could be through social media, peer influence, and schoolmates. Therefore, if they are informed early enough, they can control and overcome.

What a wonderful response. I love your tips. I think maybe we would share some different opinions, but that really reflects how and where we live. But I agree that education should begin early on, mostly being honest when any questions arise xxx

Sex education should begin as early as possible because we are no more behind, everything has changed.
