Hangab - relaxation for body, mind and soul.

Lluna and I started a course called Hangab last week.
The therapy and system was cerated by German arborist, and our teacher Hartmut Bez. The word Hangab is spoken as written with German pronounce and not like the English hangup. It stays for Hang am Baum.
The course turned out to be more than just a course. It's a training and a therapy with many facets. We had daily sessions from Thursday to Sunday, and explored the area the most on Saturday and especially Sunday.
I thought we'd be ready to go after the four days of training. But it turned out that the full training has 12 days and it's devided in 3 modules of 4 days.
Impulsive me. Just jumping into something with half knowledge makes it challenging for my beloved ones. Pricey expanses included. But we are really thrilled to continue with the training and complete it. And a very big thank you to my friend and lovely being Marian 🙏🏽 He was the spark who led me to this path.

Finally I can use my intuition of massage therapy from what I have received through more than a decade from a variety of therapies and give it to the people. For now, to relax and let go, open themselve and trust in other hands. A touch can be so healing.
But there is still so much I have to learn.

Literally turning the world upside down to let go of what is ready to go. Be it old patterns, injuries (both physical and mental), trauma from accidents and assaults, pent-up emotions, et cetera.

I learned a lot. The connection with the others were very touching and I see potential in that therapy. I'm grateful for those experience and what I could give to others, and will give to my fellows.

What is Hangab?

Hangab is a method in which the person is pulled up very slowly and in stages into the inverted posture, i.e. upside down. Since the body has enough time to adjust to the upside-down position, because only the legs are raised at first, there is no uncomfortable pressure in the head.

“Relaxation for the back and spine” is what many think, which we can also confirm. But experience shows that there are many more effects that can lead the body, mind and soul into deep relaxation. This state is also called the still point, where the body and the energy system are reloaded.

Wellness is also an aspect, it is often experienced like floating and flying. The joints and organs are relieved. The self-healing powers are activated, pelvic tilt is balanced and the intervertebral discs can regenerate.

Shamanic elements in connection with the "Spirit" is an important part of our work. In many cultures it is known that the inverted posture causes vitalization, opening of consciousness and centering and is used, for example, in the Amazon for the vision quest.

The Story of Hangab

Hartmut made his first conscious upside-down experiences on a branch that he installed on the ceiling of his room, from which he hung himself at the knee pits. His main concern was to relax his back, which was plagued by pain. However, the time to relax through hanging upside down due to the pressure points was very limited. There was also a latent fear that if he let go in his head, everything else would also let go and then fall. So the desire grew in him to hang upside down without having to do any holding work. In the beginning, he used a clever rope system consisting of two prusik knots, which they had used in a modified form in technical climbing tree care. He used a heavy-duty sling to hang his feet. It was painful, but he was thrilled. Feeling how part by part the body is stretching and lengthening, and the spine is happy, no thought of holding and not letting go has to be wasted. He felt safe, made him curious for more.

When months later a good friend, also with back problems, tried this, hung in front of him, he followed his impulses to support him even more in letting go and gave him an intuitive massage with different elements. He was thrilled and his back without pain. So initially, Hangab was more of a method for him to cure back issues. Step by step, he was shown a much deeper dimension of this work.

It was a coincidence that a doctor and shaman became aware of Hangab and asked for an appointment. Totally excited about her experience, she called this an initiation. She immediately suggested doing a test to compare different parameters before and after a Hangab session. Two months later, it was time. A kinesiologist and an osteopath were also present. The results were impressive:

The intervertebral discs can regenerate and are sucked back into their natural place by the pulling apart from the vertebrae and the resulting negative pressure. The neck, shoulder, buttocks and back muscles can be stretched and relaxed. Pelvic obliquity can be aligned, the self-healing powers activated up to 100% and the cerebral hemispheres balanced. The blood pressure can harmonise itself. Joint blockages, trauma and old patterns can dissolve. The body and energy system can experience a reload, a so-called reset (still point). The chakras can be stimulated, and pelvic obliquity can be balanced. By the way: The revitalising, mind-opening and centring effect of the inverted posture is known in many cultures.

Hartmut has personally experienced a lot of healing with Hangab. With the death of his beloved twin brother and dropping out of college 3 times (at the same time) he was in grief, despair and completely disoriented. All the emotional pain that had accumulated over 3 years was able to dissolve head first – he cried like never before in his life. At the same time, a short film from this time ran in his mind, similar to how people with near-death experiences describe it. Afterwards, he felt intoxicated with happiness. Over the years with Hangab, he has witnessed many such emotional cleansing. It's also amazing how quickly people get into such processes without being pushed, it just happens. Due to the unfamiliar posture where at some point you no longer know where up and down is, the head can give up control and so emotions can flow even with the hardened.

I quite enjoy the headstand pose in yoga but this is taking it to another level.

There's a lot of trust involved as you have no control ( I think) and perhaps this is where the emotional release comes in?

The level here of letting go is very different from the own effort, to keep yourself in a certain position, and that's the key to release deep-seated tension, mental and physical.
Yes, you have to trust the therapist and the therapy, as well as yourself. You have to want to let go, to work on yourself, no matter what it is.

I felt very relaxed afterwards. Body and mentalwise. I don't have any hidden, deep lying emotional issues, or at least I couldn't find any. I've been taking care and working on myself pretty well. I talk about my emotions and am open to them. Philosophy, metaphysics, theology, and open to any kind of therapies and techniques, for example, help me think about life and take things easy.

The next few days after the training I felt a sort of pain in my lower back which probably were relieved from hanging and relaxing the spine so much for four days. Like in TCM, Bowen Technique, Thai Massage or any other good therapy, and with the appropriate therapist, it can release any kind of accrued toxic materials, thoughts or emotions inside the body. I remember many times being very exhausted for a few days after a good session. Positive exhaustion, positive pain.
