This might as well count as my first rant of 2022 🤣
Even though I do not particularly enjoy San Luis (Cumaná’s most popular beach) because of its lack of touristic infrastructure, transportation issues, lousy food services, lack of safety, crowds, etc., it is traditional here to come to the beach on New Year’s Day or the days immediately after.
My wife’s cousin extended the invitation and offered to provide transportation so we gave it a try. We were supposed to spend the whole day at the beach and be back by sunset, but by 1:30 we were ready to come back home.
The water was very cold and there was too much seaweed. We arrived a bit late too. We were supposed to be there before nine, but running errands to get the provisions, (the problem with a beach that does not provide that kind of services) caused the delay. By nine, the beach was already crowded.
Sea weed
At some point it got dark and felt even colder
Despite all those issues, we had a good time. We have learned to ignore the crowd and focus on the company.
Sellers
Hats
Torrejas (fried wheat flour dough with sugar). These are my favorites but I was unable to buy them becasue I did not have any cash. Venezuela continues being one of the few countries in the world where cash is so hard to find people but it.
Asopado (A strong sea food soup, with alleged aphrodisiac powers). This guys drive their moving stove along the beach selling this coveted hot sea food soup. The problem ow is cash. Most people pay in dollars, which ironically has become "easier" to come by.
Lolipops
Sunglasses. I did need a pair of those (have not had sunglasses in years), but cash-only is not the best transaction method here.
A picture I loved for all the simbolic elements in it, especially in the context of the Old Year-New Year moment.
This is the food we paid $25 for. Breaded squid. It was bad, to put it nicely, but we ate it anyway. No point in coplaining to the cook, or asking for changes. Customer service is not our forte.
The waves started to get wild after noon.
@manujune ws too cold and worried about her hair 😉
More people kept coming
SO, it was time to go.
We called it a day at about 2 pm and went home, back to our daily routines.
This young lady will probably ask for another visit to the beach, when it is not so crowded and we promised to bring the dogs next time. I'll keep you posted.
I think that you really are goats, and June was waiting for the autographs hahaha
Lol! We might have become 🐐
The weather did not help.
June's fan would not recognize her after she went into the 🌊 and she did not bring her make-up team
