Not If It Means Giving Up Football Nights

The 2023/2024 Champions League finals was a very memorable one for me. I went to a viewing station to watch the match as it played live because as a Real Madrid fan, I did not want to be told about the match. Attendance in the viewing station was well over 500 people who had sat down (and some stood) to watch the finals.

As usual, Madrid had many enemies or anti-fans stemming from Madrid's victory over some English and German teams that season. So some were expecting to see Madrid lose while others to win.

One thing about such gatherings is that you are going to see people of different character and knowledge about football. As usual, there is never a dull moment. Fast forward to the 72nd minute, and D. Carvajal scores. The excitement, the joy, and the talks all around. The place started bubbling. Even those who were initially mute before now had something to say. Madrid later won the match 2 to nil. The jubilation within the viewing station was another fun part.

Later that month, I visited a park in my area on a Sunday. You should know that Sundays are more of a relaxation day here in my country, so places like parks or popular restaurants are usually filled completely, and if you're not careful, you won't even see food to buy there (speaking from experience). So while I was there (I went with a friend), we did many interesting things. We played a lot of 3D games, and just like the food section, if you don't have stamina, you may never get your turn to play. What motivated me more to play some of those games, which I considered not interesting, was the fact that people were very busy with the games. So I joined the crowd, and I had a wonderful day.

How could the Champions League final have been so memorable if not that I had people around me who made it memorable? What about the pleasure park, where we would have just left in a hurry, but the presence of random people made the day bubbling? I know that by now you get my point. I wouldn't trade anything for the possibility to socialize with people at random. Your family or lover could be your comfort place, which is still fine, but no man is an island.

So I would say this—unless the cabin is going to be very close to about 100 family neighbors whom I can watch and analyze games with, hang out with regularly, have a mini sports pitch where the neighbors and I can play, have a gym center, have excellent network service, and have maybe a mini mall, then I would never take the chance at living the rest of my life in a cabin in the woods. Maybe, I just don't fancy the simple life 🙂
