Hello, good friends from #THEWEEKEND-EXPERIENCE. Another week have passed, and we are returning to the place we loved…
It's Saturday, and I'm taking the chance to participate because from tomorrow on I will not have internet unless I paid my bill.
I see this prompt, and it brought me dark memories from 2019… XD
What if you had no electricity
Imagine there was no electricity anywhere in the world from right this moment. What would your life look like, how would you handle it and what negatives, problems, or benefits, do you think you’d encounter? Would it be good or bad?
I actually don't have to imagine this. On 2019, my country, Venezuela, suffered a major blackout. It happened in the whole country, and we spent at least one entire week without electricity. I'm not going to mention the political reasons our politicians wanted us to believe, but I will mention my experience.
I was a nightmare! We're so accustomed to live with electricity and technological devices, that it was weird to pass through that big problem. In my city the weather was so hot and without a fan it was a burning hell. We spent days playing scrabble because we have anything else to entertain ourselves. I took the time for writing on my old notebook; poems and an attempt of novel. We used to gather with some neighbors to chat on the afternoons, and we used to light up mechuzos (gas oil lams) to bring some clarity to our houses.
We pray to not get sick because part of the concern was that hospitals we're a total chaos. The Malaria was rising up due to the mosquitoes. People got sick a lot. And even we tried to stay calm, we could'n help from saying the F word so many times. The smell of the houses also was a problem, many people suffered from asthma, and it wasn't good for them, me included.
So, yes. I happened to live through this, and if it happens one more time I know I will be more than prepared. I'd take time for my writing and read some of the books I have in my shelf. That's all. Life would be more chaotic, with difficulties to get supplies for our homes, hospitals would work less that they do now, and the only benefit I'd find is that in some way people get closer and humble. I'd say that it would more bad rather than good.
