My Chaotic Journey to Bohol: An Unforgettable Experience

in Weekend Experiences5 months ago (edited)

Hello Hivers. Have you ever had an experience where you can say, "Is god testing my day?" where everything is just not working according to plan? Well, for me, I just had a chaotic journey heading to my hometown, so it was pretty memorable. It is memorable in the sense that everything is just not how your journey usually happens, and everything is just pure chaos.

To start, I currently live in Cebu, but my hometown is in Bohol

A little trivia: Bohol is a beautiful island in the center of the Philippines, famous for its beaches and unique tourist destinations, particularly our famous chocolate hills. If you ever decide to visit the island, make sure to try our delicious Kalamay and all the fun things the island offers.

Last December 22, my family traveled back to our hometown to celebrate Christmas and New Year there.

The Packing

My family, three sisters, and mother will all be going to Bohol together, so our bags are pretty jammed and packed. We tended to pack the day before our journey, so it was rushed, really tiring; and we surely overpacked with all the luggage we carried, but we were too excited for the upcoming days, so it did not hinder our moods.

We had already booked our tickets way ahead of the day and contacted our uncle (who is a cab driver) for our ride home (since we would also be traveling 2 hours from the pier to our house), so we expected that our journey would go smoothly. Well, God, we were proven wrong.

I slept so late due to how excited I was that I only had 2 hours of sleep. We all woke up really early, around 2 am, to prepare since our boat would be leaving by 6. By 4 am, were already waiting for a cab, but since it was too early, there was no cab in the area and no grab taxi awake to take us to Pier 1. (by the way, my mom is a PWD, so she needed to ride a taxi wherever we go). Fortunately, one of my sisters booked a grab taxi by 4:30 am, but since it was only for four-seaters, we decided that my mom and 2 of my sisters would be riding the taxi while my other sister and I would be riding a jeepney with the rest of the luggage to take us to the pier.

But since jeepneys don't really take us directly to the pier, we need to be dropped off near Basilica de St. Nino and ride yet another taxi (thankfully, there are taxis here) to take us to Pier 1. Even the start of our journey is already messed up.

We had our ticket in hand, got our terminal fees and our seat number (for the boat), and ported our luggage. Thankfully, the boat was not delayed. We left at the exact time scheduled and arrived around 8. My uncle and aunt were already there to take us home.

We thought that since everyone had yet to get breakfast, we would order it through Jollibee Drive-thru. We parked the car at the side of the road and finished our meals. Then we continued our journey.

We just started the journey again when the car suddenly stopped. We found out that the engine of the car overheated and it needs to be fixed by an expert so we will not be able to use it for the time being. We all went out and waited for another cab that was not full enough to take all of us (which, by the way, was clearly impossible since we were carrying too many bags, wheelchairs, and passengers). My uncle contacted his company, told them about the current situation, and asked for another cab to take us home.

We took some pictures to commemorate the waiting experience 😂

While waiting on the side of the road, the weather turned grim, and guess what? It started raining. When we thought everything would again be in our favor, the rain arrived, darkening our already grim moods. Everything did not happen according to plan; it was pure disaster. But, anyway, we needed to see the positive side of things, so we waited, and finally, another cab arrived and took us home. But since our home was vacated for four months, it needs intensive cleaning.

So, to end this blog, let's say we ended that day with all of us (who just had a chaotic journey) with rugs and dustpans on hand, cleaned the house, cooked lunch and dinner, and finally lay down in bed and just reminisced on how the day was spent. But anyway, it was all worth it in the end since we got to see this view again.

Thank you for reading my chaotic journey. Hope to see you again in my upcoming blogs❤️.

Felt like a series of unfortunate events? In the end, all we had to manage is our reactions and just keep it cool despite the challenges that arises. I am now anxious with my travel to Dumaguete soon. And I know despite how much preparation I will do, there might something that comes up during the actual day. Fingers cross, less unfortunate events for me. 😉

@indayclara, yes miss, felt like everything is just going against our plan but anyway, we just need to think that this will pass and eventually turn to memories. ❤️ Hope you’ll have a good time in your trip miss 🤗

Yes @daenerhys, we just need to be optimistic and think that there are more people who have bigger problems than us. Although its chaotic, we had lessons learned in the experience😅☺️

Ah, there are really times we experienced this kind of chaotic 🤣. I well I am not that patient though.

@lhes yesss, it was indeed a roller coaster of emotions but we cannot quit cause we need to go home😅 anyway, our patient were really tested during that time😭🤣

Yes I’ve had days where I thought God was testing me but I think those days make us grateful for the good days we have.

Hello @abenad, sorry for the late reply. Yes, we definitely had those days and we are stronger because of it. We start to appreciate the little things we have and simply live in the moment, good or bad. 😇
