Yes, the doctor is allowed to check the gender of the baby. We usually go to the OB when our baby is 6mos to 7 months in the womb because their gender can be seen.
It is called ultrasound where the position of the baby can be seen as well as their condition.
Another advantage is that parents will know what things to buy for the baby. Example blue for boy and pink for girl.
