THE DATE OF THE VAQUEJADA HAS FINALLY ARRIVED
I don't know about your country, but where I live, vaquejada is a cultural sport that mobilizes countless layers of society. Its historical condition moves the economy in which it is present, alongside the “fun” there is a whole commerce generating jobs and income directly or indirectly. Its social context provides the livelihood of countless families.
The most famous vaquejada in the city of Montanhas takes place on the first weekend of the year, usually during the same period as the famous Santos Reis festival. The event is so eagerly awaited by the public that, on the eve or on the day of the activity, the entire city mobilizes in the form of a march celebrating this date. The vaquejada itself begins on Friday and ends on Monday morning, providing a busy, exciting and attractive weekend.

What can I say, that date has arrived and the event has already started. Today, January 5, 2024, when I woke up, I witnessed the famous march and I can already hear that the races in the courtyard have already started. There is an announcer commenting on what is happening, something that can be heard throughout a large part of the city.
WHAT IT DOES THE VAQUEJADA OF MOUNTAIN TO BE SO FAMOUS IN THE REGION?
- The vaquejada patio is gigantic, holding a significant number of people;
- There is a show house inside the patio area that operates alongside sporting activities of vaquejada;
- The performances that take place at the show hall feature famous singers and bands;
- The prize for the winners is relatively high;
- The entry to the locality is accessible to all audiences;
- It's a real party, there are people selling practically everything on site; “you only go hungry if you have no money”
- The bleachers are at a height where the visibility of the place is perfect, you can follow practically everything from wherever you are;
- There are specific places in the environment for children, that is, there are possibilities for everyone; “It’s difficult for someone to visit and leave saying they didn’t like it”
- For those who like animals, there are places to take photos with horses and cattle.
WHAT IS VAQUEJADA?
It may seem like a banal question, but it is a sport from the Brazilian Northeast, you may not know it. SIMPLY: The activity consists of 2 people riding horses, waiting to release an ox or a bovine and at speed running after that animal, grabbing its tail and bringing it down in a defined location. Each time you succeed, you score points, those who make mistakes will be eliminated. Whoever has the most points at the end wins and gets the grand prize.
POINTS THAT I CONSIDER NEGATIVE
To enter the place you face gigantic queues;
I feel a little sorry for the animals, as they are constantly knocked down;
Parking should be bigger, it is overloaded with vehicles.
ABOUT THE VAQUEJADA
There are people who defend it and there are those who criticize it, I don't visit the place for that purpose, I do my best to enjoy the social interactions and moments experienced in the environment. “It’s my first weekend of the year, I have an obligation to make it the best”

It's fun, but animals are under a lot of stress. The best part of the vaquejada is what happens because of its influence: shows, parks and other situations.
