What Is Weekend Without Friends?: The Unity Park Experience.

As a team we had worked for roughly a year in the media section in school without much to show for it as regards having a nice time together. Many of my team members were already voicing out the need for cooling off some stress especially with how demanding our work could be. As the team head I understood how much they needed it at that point so, I thought the best way we could connect better as a team was to go for a weekend outing at the Unity Park in Enugu, Nigeria.

We fixed a Saturday for an outing (that was some months back). Excitement was palpable as that was our first official outing together as a team. First, we took a cab to a shopping mall (Spar mall) to get some ice cream and meat pie for our special meeting. We had made financial commitment for everything we would need.

We took some pictures outside the mall since it was the first time for some of us going to the Spar mall.

Inside the mall we took our time walking around, taking pictures (my team members were really out to have fun - every bit of it), checking out prices of goods, and getting to know the name of different products, even though that was not the main purpose of our going to the mall. I couldn't help but flow with the aura of the moment. We ended up spending over two hours in the mall.

After leaving the mall, we walked down to the park which was a few meters away. It was already evening and we wanted to stroll down the road to further feed our eyes with the good scenery of the town.

We got to Unity park quite late in the evening but that was least of our problem - our meeting was sure to hold especially with our level of anticipation.

More pictures of the park was taken at different locations. We walked around to feel the natural scent of the numerous trees in the park. Movies were shot at the park. Finding a shed for our meeting wasn't much of a task. We could hardly settled down before attacking our bowl of ice cream and munchy pies: everyone was hungry at that point (laughing).

We played the rotational question game, recalled our good and bad moments as a team, discussed vital issues, and made new commitments to how we could work better. It was a blissful experience as I had never seen the faces of my team members so lit up before. It was dark when we left the park. It was obvious everyone had a really nice time and wished we could stay longer.

Team work became easier the week after our outing experience.

I am happy you concur. We bonded better after the outing. Their happiness reflected in their attitude to work weeks after. Thank you for commenting.

Oh! You just made me miss some old colleagues of mine when we went outing like this. Was so amazing. Have never seen a big calved lion sculpture before. Great weekend my friend.
