RE: Sugar, more than a food (Week 256)

I do not have statistical data to confirm this, but I dare to say "a ojo de buen cubero" that Cubans consume more sugar than is recommended for our health. Maybe that, in part, is related to the sugar history of our country, which is a component of our culture. On the other hand, it may be related to the impossibility of obtaining (healthier) products to replace the ones we currently consume. Remember that a "aguazuca" has been the lifesaver of many.

Nobody would deny the importance of the sugar industry in the constitution of the Cuban nation. Right now a significant sugar production would help us overcome the crisis. However, I believe that Cuba has to be more than sugar, tobacco and rum. More so in these times of vertiginous technological development, don't you think?

Thanks for your visit and don't abuse sugar 😜🌻
