As you know, I am a pure-bred Havanan as we say here in Cuba jjj, there is a lot of mixing, but I am a Havanan from all sides jj. Well, like all Havanans, I like its history, its idiosyncrasy, its life and customs. This weekend there were my nephews from Cienfuegos, visiting the house and we invited them to tour parts of the historic center of the City, where walks, culture and history are mixed.
Old Havana has 4 public squares, which are the Plaza Vieja, the Plaza de Armas, the Plaza de San Francisco de Asís (we banana growers know it as the Plaza de las Palomas) and the Plaza de la Catedral. On this occasion we only visited the 3 closest ones: the Plaza Vieja, the Plaza de Armas and the Plaza de las Palomas, here I show them to you and explain their characteristics and environments one by one.
Como ustedes saben soy habanera de pura cepa como decimos aquí en Cuba jjj, es que hay mucha mezcla, pero yo soy habanera por los 4 costados jj. Pues bien, como toda habanera me gusta su historia, su idiosincrasia, su vida y costumbres. Este fin de semana estuvieron mis sobrinos de Cienfuegos, de visita en la casa y los invité recorrer partes del casco histórico de la Ciudad, donde se mezcla paseo, cultura e historia.
La Habana Vieja tiene 4 plazas públicas, que son La Plaza Vieja, la Plaza de Armas, la Plaza de San Francisco de Asís (nosotros los bananeros la conocemos como la Plaza de las Palomas) y la plaza de la Catedral. En esta ocasión sólo visitamos las 3 más cercanas: la Plaza Vieja, la de Armas y la de las Palomas, aquí se las muestro y explico sus características y entornos una por una.
Old square / Plaza Vieja
This was the first square that we visited, we arrived at it through San Ignacio street from Obispo street, this square is very beautiful and wide, in the center it has a very beautiful fountain where I portrayed my nephews as you can see.
Esta fue la primera Plaza que visitamos llegamos a ella a través de la calle San Ignacio desde la calle Obispo, esta plaza es muy bonita y amplia, en el centro tiene una fuente muy bonita donde retraté a mis sobrinos como ven.
Around it there are restaurants, cafes and the beer house, in the past there were no pigeons around but now when we visited it we saw many, it seems that they have moved from the Plaza de San Francisco de Asís which is the closest one, in addition It is the Plaza that has always had many pigeons, hence the people of Havana call it the Plaza de las Palomas, the children played to catch them as seen in the photos.
A su alrededor se encuentran restaurantes, cafeterías y la casa de la Cerveza, antiguamente no habían palomas alrededor pero ahora cuando la visitamos vimos muchas, parece que se han trasladado de la Plaza de San Francisco de Asís que es la que más cerca queda, además es la Plaza que siempre ha tenido muchas palomas de ahí que los habaneros le digan la Plaza de las Palomas, los niños jugaban a atraparlas como se ve en las fotos.

This is the square that I like the most, right on the corner opposite the Church that gives it its name is the Lonja del Comercio at its feet there is a sculpture that I love, it is called La Conversation, it is one of the most interesting sculptures For me, because of its beauty and its meaning, I consider that humanity needs a lot of dialogue and understanding, this is represented in this work.
Esta es la plaza que más me gusta, justo en la esquina contrario a la Iglesia que le da el nombre se encuentra la Lonja del Comercio a sus pies hay una escultura que me encanta, es denominada La conversación, es una de las esculturas más interesante para mi, por su belleza y por su significado, considero que la humanidad necesita mucho diálogo y entendimiento, esto se encuentra representado en ésta obra.
This square also has a fountain, although it is not in the center as the Plaza Vieja is near the Convent, it is a very beautiful fountain. On this occasion the pigeons are hardly seen, a few years ago it was always full of pigeons, they came to eat from people's hands and even though the children ran through them all the time they never felt threatened, it seems that they they have moved to the Plaza Vieja which was where we saw them.
Esta plaza también tiene una fuente, aunque no está al centro como la Plaza Vieja se encuentra cerca del Convento, es una fuente muy bella. En esta ocasión casi no se ven las palomas, hace unos años siempre estaba llena de palomas, venian a comer de la mano de las personas y por mas que los niños corrian a traves de ellas todo el rato nunca se senttian amenazadas, parece que se han trasladando para la Plaza Vieja que fue donde las vimos.

Finally, we leave Old Havana to the Havana boardwalk through the Plaza de Armas, it is surrounded by the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales and the Castillo de la Real Fuerza and in the center there is a large spectacular garden with a fountain and a park, really very pretty.

This Plaza, like all those in Havana, has no traffic and the streets are made of cobblestones, so my nieces felt free and ran.
