Hello weekend friends! Today I'll show you what a typical autumn Sunday morning looks like for me on the ol' farm in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The weather is chilly now at night and in the mornings, so the first thing I do is stir up the coals in the wood stove and add a few logs to get the fire started for the day 💗
Ahhh....there we go! Nothing beats the radiant heat of wood. It feels like the sun to me.
After starting the kettle for tea I take care of my indoor animals with food and water. I have 3 cats right now and they are all great mousers. I've never had a mouse messing with my food because of them.
And of course I have cats because I've always loved them. They were my first Spirit Animal. I just adore their soothing nature and antics...with boxes especially haha 😂
They both want to go in, "After you" 💁 "No, no, after you" 💁♂️

At 9 am I go and open up my store for the day. I had a relaxing day yesterday and did NO baking. So all I put in the store today were eggs. There's still plenty of cookies, cakes and bread there for today's customers. I'll be making fresh sourdough late tonight.
Next I practice Spanish for 30 minutes while my brain is fresh and ready to absorb.
Time to feed the chickens!
In the morning I give them 5 scoops of lay ration pellets and one scoop of scratch grains. I have around 40 chickens right now.
They get fed twice a day instead of filling feeders for them where they can access food all the time. This ensures they eat all the food and leave none around for rats. We have a lot of rats out here.
In the spring I will get 50 new layers and sell these girls.
They always crowd the fence when they see me coming 😅 It's a little awkward ... I feel famous.
I spread it all around their run so everyone gets some.
I haven't been letting them free range outdoors for the last couple weeks as we have a lot of predators right now. Bobcats, coyotes, and foxes. My dog freedom can't protect them from that many predators as the chickens really like to spread out when they are outside.
Meet Freedom! My livestock guardian dog 🐕
It's time for her breakfast now and next her walk around the boundaries of her 4 acre watch.
I call it a walk, but it's really a sniff. I take Freedom for a sniff. Usually takes about 30-45 minutes depending on how many animals have come into the area overnight.
She goes on another one of these sniffs late afternoon.
At night she sleeps in the coop with the chickens to keep out weasels, mink, skunks and rats.
She's killed many rats over the last 3 years and one fox. I could not have chickens out here if I didn't have Freedom.
Snifffffffff
Sniffffffffffffff
Isn't she so cute? 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 When she's not murdering ofc. Then she looks scary AF 😂

Some Fall Pretties
I found a cool little bottle out there, it's amazing what the Earth belches up, all from the days when there was no garbage pick up and everyone buried their trash on their land.
Now it's time for a tick ✅ check. Gotta love ticks lol. They come in spring and fall. I'm just grateful they leave during summer and winter.
Not sure why it looks like I have size 2 feet hahaaa, I'm a 9 I swear ahhaaa.
That's a wrap!
I'm ready to plop myself down on the couch next to these beautiful coals I've built and write my post 😇
I hope you're having a relaxing weekend where you are too 😊
Thanks for checking mine out 🙏
We're having a fire today too, I felt so chilled yesterday with the wind, it's that weird time of year where the stove can easily make it way too hot in here LOL
Agreed haha I'm in a tank top now and almost ready for the ol' sandals 🤣
We got up to 25C and I had to open a bunch of windows, roasting 😂
Really beautiful pictures. I enjoyed reading about your Sunday routines surrounded by nature and your animals.
Thank you so much for visiting, and nice to meet you also (mucho gusto) Bea! 😊
Yay! What a trip to the east coast from the comfort of my curation chair! Funny, half way through this response and my phone rang from the guy I got my lupine seeds from a couple years ago.
Love the homestead and all those chickens! We have family on my wife’s side that has similar setups north near cottage country and I just love visiting to see all the fresh produce and animals.
So good to have you back telling stories.
Ahhh cottage country, been a while since I saw that, so beautiful in the fall ❤️ Thanks for your visit Zeke!

These days, our country is experiencing heavy rains, so the need for fires is felt very strongly. Your daily routine is very interesting. Feeding the chickens is a difficult task for me. But you have been doing it well since ancient times. The surroundings are very beautifully arranged.
