Last Saturday was balanced: activity, time off, good meals, and great friends. It highlighted to me how much happiness can arise from simple pleasures.
As the sun hung on into the afternoon, my friend and I felt the call to run outside. We were both in the mood just to jog, so we decided to hit up an old favorite trail, one we knew very well—a place we had not run in a very long time. It was a great pleasure to get back to an old running location we had not frequented in so long.
That run was the perfect end to a week. Following - our run, the sky started to change. The sun dropped lower and lower, and the sky began to take on more colors. We stopped and watched patiently as the sunset took shape before us. The colors were moving and manipulating right before us, and it was amazing to witness. It was a beautiful ending to a great run. We stood and took in the view for a while longer; no one should ever be in too much of a rush to step into such beauty.
After our run, we were both a little hungry and wanted to grab something to eat. We went to a local place called Fry Spot. This spot's specialty is chicken wings. We ordered a plate of wings, each with a different flavor. We enjoyed the meal very much and did not talk while eating. The wings were that good! It was a quiet, calm, happy meal, full of good food and satisfaction.
After we finished and were stuffed full, we were full enough and relaxed to head back home. We returned to the park and found a quiet spot to talk and sit. We spoke of our week and plans in the upcoming week to enjoy each other's company. It was a simple pleasure without any bells and whistles, something that we needed after spending weeks with more effort and enjoyment.
The night air was still cold but refreshing. The short time hanging out took away the entire week's burden. I also noted it was a good reminder that simplicity can mean happiness on a Saturday without needing much to come together. It can be just good days, a nice run, an incredible sunset, a nice place to eat, and some time with a good friend. It was a day of value, rest, and pleasure. It, indeed, was a perfect Saturday.
