Wonderful Experience: From the Backyard to the Table

It's a Saturday. My wife told me that almost one-half of our "caravan" banana bunch of fruits is already ripe. Excited, and I considered it an adventure and another good experience to harvest it which is called in Visaya "magtuba".

Hello, Co-Hivers and friends! In this blog, I'll show you some problems on how to cut a bunch of fruits of ripening bananas without crashing it directly on land to prevent the fruits from breaking. Please come with me to our backyard banana plants.

The Problem

I was excited to see that almost one-half of the fruits of bananas were already ripe. But when I looked at the plant, I was sure that if I cut the stem immediately, several pieces of the banana fruits would crash to the ground and eventually break. It would be a waste. So I looked at the tall stem and looked for a possible solution. Would it be a pole with an attached knife?

But, bamboo pole is not available. So, I thought of another means. Make cuts on the stem for me to step on and be able to climb. It's called in our locality "hakhak". Huh! It's a thrill! It could be dangerous because I had bolo with me. But I tried my best to be safe and to succeed as you can see here.

The Solution

I made it!

Success!

The bunch had just hung and didn't touch the ground. So, it's easy for my wife to cut it from the stem. And my boy backed up his mother.

Tasting the ripe ones.

And finally, on the table...

Cooked in the kettle through steaming

Fried in a pan with cooking oil and brown sugar

That was my thrill of a good experience in our backyard.

I think I need to end here, my dear co-Hivers. Thank you for reading until this part here.

See you on my next blog. Keep safe everyone.

I really enjoyed this publication. We have cambur plants, we love this fruit, it is very versatile, we can accompany it with many foods. We have to do that pruning. This is a great blessing my friend @natsve54

Thank you mam @lisfabian for additional inputs.

Banana Cuee, so tasty. It reminded me how beautiful province life was.

It's true mam @ancrafts. For me, we can enjoy a lot of things here. We can enjoy the fresh air, fresh vegies, and this one- fresh fruits of our own plants. In fact, it also reminds me of my childhood days.

This reminds me a lot of my home province, Leyte. Makamingaw.

I love those breed of bananas, its short but sweet too, i never knew it can be fried thou, i haven't tasted fried ones before , those it taste good??

Yes, it really tastes good. In fact, when we have visitors, we serve them with oil-cooked ripe bananas. They enjoy it. Thank you for your queries @fredaig.

Hmmm do you use red oil or groundnut oil to fry the bananas..??

I use any available cooking oil in the market. Honestly, I don't have an idea of the source, which I supposed to do. Thank you @fredaig for giving me an idea about the red oil and groundnut oil. Maybe I have to try both for me to have a comparison of their respective taste.

Hmmmm well am glad you see that as an idea, i'll be trying this recipe soon but I'll use groundnut oil first as experiment

I'd like to try it, too.

Ohhk☺️☺️

What a great solution to cut it instead of getting some and crashing many of the unripe fruits. You are so lucky to have a banana fruit at your own yard. I love bananas when coated with sugar, the bananacue and turon. Hehe. I love saging!

Yes @pinkchic, if you cut half the stem's diameter of the upper one-third of the bananas height, the fruits will not crash on the ground. Thank you for your idea mam.
