A Detour: Into the wilderness of Kaluangan, Asturias, Cebu

“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.”― Zig Ziglar

Hello, how are you my dear Hive friends? What are your plans for today? I hope everyone is fine and kicking. For today, I will be showing you one of my unexpected travels to the last mile area of Asturias, Cebu - Barangay Kaluangan.

It was a fine Saturday morning when one of my friends asked me if we could visit our friend in Kaluangan. Kaluangan is one of the mountain barangays of Asturias, Cebu. From Asturias, Cebu, you need to travel for about two hours or more to reach your destination. Though it is too far from the main road, it can be passed through a motorcycle or any vehicle for mountain climbing.

I was thinking of visiting the area too because my friend always told me that the place is beautiful and spectacular. Without a second thought, I agree and get my things ready for the travel.

Since it was summer and we were staying in Cebu City, my friend in Kaluangan informed us to have a detour instead. She instructed us to pass by Barangay Talamban, Cebu, and then to Barangay Lusaran, Cebu, and from there you can find a short diversion road that will lead you to Barangay Kaluangan. Though we were not familiar with the place mentioned by my friend, our eagerness to reach the destination was high, so we followed the instructions given and asked locals from the place to get in the right direction.

While traveling, you can see greeneries around us which signifies that we are in the midst of a mountain. It was so overwhelming seeing these green grasses and trees around. I was amazed by these wonders, for a while you will forget all the problems in life, and enjoying the view is what you will do.

You can also pass by creeks/streams in Barangay Lusaran. I could say that the place has a lot of water sources here for agriculture. I can see that people in the place are also planting corn and other root crops as staple foods.

After a couple of hours of traveling, you will be amazed at the view around you. You're on the top of Cebu. All you can see is green: trees, shrubs, and mountains. Taking pictures for a while before continuing our travel is what we did. Having a peaceful life like this is what I always wanted to have. Staying out from the bustling city life and living simply will make my day great.

Even if we are on top, there are still people that we meet along the way. They were busy doing their daily life chores.

We need to walk in this area because the road is slippery and too narrow for the motorcycle with back ride

Until we reach an area where it's not cemented. And the weather is not fine anymore. It started to dark and almost raining. My friend told us that we needed to hurry up so that we could reach Kaluangan 1 Primary School where my other friend waited for us before the rain poured. My heart went oops. Afraid that the road might be slippery and no place to stay. Continuing our journey even if the road is difficult and slippery is what we do until we reach our destination. I will just comfort myself by saying, "This is it, no turning backs".

Viola! The place is magical. That sea of clouds can be seen just outside the school grounds. Our friend as a school caretaker to this last mile school in Asturias, Cebu isn't wrong in her description of the place. This is so beautiful. After that hardships and even slippery roads, will lead you to this amazing destination. The hidden beauty beneath the mountains.

However, the weather was not fine because the rain poured heavily when we arrived. Thankfully, we were safe before the place got zero visibility. Having a tour of their area is what we did for life here is simple. Kids were just playing outside their house and even near the school building as their playground. Simplicity is what life needs. You don't need fancy things as long as you are happy and contented with your life. It's all that matters!

That's all for today's blog with my unexpected visit to the Last Mile School in Asturias, Cebu. I hope you are having a great day while reading.

Have a nice day everyone.😊
