Finish The Story Contest Returns! - Week #69 Winners

in Bananafish3 years ago

Hoist the colours, proud fiction writers!

We, @tristancarax and @marcoriccardi, like to thank all the participants for this 69th week of Finish the Story, revamped!

We had five enthusiastic storytellers who participated with great skill and sense of humor, following a wild, freewritish, bananafishy prompt concocted by maestro Tristan Carax.

So, we proved one thing:

This does not mean that we will do it often, because time is running out, but that every now and then we could revive this tradition!

Our Contestants

#1. @mgaft1

This story was important because it is the first entry for Finish the Story in almost a year now! It was like redrawing the path for the other participants.
Furthermore, there are some terrible prehistoric beasts, reminding us that even in the world of emus there is an all too human tendency to lose control of one's actions... and uncontrolled escalation leads to disaster!

#2. @carolkean

Not only was this story a hilarious conclusion to an equally hilarious beginning, keeping the tragicomic and surreal tone in full, but Carol also gave us a series of insights into Australian zoology and entomology, turning a divertissement into something truly instructive.

#3. @owasco

How could I define this story ending in which a jumble of characters appears to accompany the already bizarre image of four emus in a fast food restaurant? Rattlesnakes (real or alleged), Hitchcock crows and a very ecumenical and almost "holy" Butch Cassidy ... there is the taste of a true freewrite and bananafish madness flows copiously in an inter-species message of peace.

#4. @morey-lezama

Instead of an ending, we have a prequel here, yet there is a sense of recursion.
This "brotherhood" of emu certainly does not learn from their mistakes. To err is human, to persevere is ... "emuical"!
However, there is some truth in the fact that curiosity and hunger can push you to take a lot of risks, for the enjoyment of us readers.

#5. @raj808

The cows stamped the dust up as their chanting rose to a moo-ving crescendo.

Thus begins the masterful Rowan. The genius also passes through lexical puns, if it serves to write another prequel (maybe we should change the name of the contest?), in which the animals decide that it is time to implement what they have evidently read in Orwell, even if there are several problems ... what to do when food speaks to you?

The Winners

1st PLACE - 7 STEEM: @carolkean!

The judges comment:
"For me, it is a toss up between raj808 and carolkean for first place. I think these two stories captured really well the spirit of fun I had written with." (@tristancarax)
"I think Rowan (Raj808) is an accomplished writer, but Carol was the first to come with the idea of the caterpillar, that Rowan borrowed later...so I think we should reward Carol" (@marcoriccardi)

BEST COMMENT(S) - 2 HIVE SBI: @owasco

The added (s) is for the reason that the comments are more than one, in fact they are very encouraging comments and full of enthusiasm for the other participants.

MOST VOTED STORY - 5 HIVE SBI: - Well, perhaps nobody wanted the burden of the choice, or make differences between friends...the fact is that we did not have votes, so we will divide the prize among the participants not awarded in any other way, and to round up, we raise to 6 SBI (2 each): @mgaft1, @raj808, @morey-lezama

Congratulations to all, and see you next time!

...by the way, tomorrow there will be a Mizu no Oto, if you want to try your hand at haiku 😉

Let’s the Bananafish Tribe grow together!

The wise potassium kami Bananafish wants all of its beloved people can benefit from rich upvotes. For this reason, knowing that unity is strength, it asks for HP delegations and for numerous commitments to the curation trail.

With delegations, Bananafish voting power will grow and consequently the upvotes given to every contest entry will be higher. An easy mode to delegate some of your HP for a gigantic energy wave is to use PeakD and its wallet.

Following the curation trail is a way to make sure you always support the other participants to the Bananafish contests, automatically upvoting the posts (but not the comments) that Bananafish upvotes. We suggest to join hive.vote to follow curation trails or create yours.

We are also happy if you join the official Hive Bananafish community and publish the posts related to the contest within it, as well as in your blog

Thank you so much, I enjoyed writing this continuation of @tristancarax's story very much, and reading all the entries. Congrats to the @carolkean! See you for mizu no oto tomorrow!

No, thank YOU! And for the Mizu...it's on the way!

Me? I won?

Thank you!!!

More than anything this year, this inspires me to get busy #writing again.
And today of all days, the vertigo came back (I enjoyed a month's respite), but the vestibular therapist has a cancellation this afternoon -- there is a God!! - and I plan to be functioning again. Soon.
THANK YOU again,
and kudos to all the others who entered. I enjoyed everyone's stories. It was fun to write again, too!!!

Congrats again and best wishes for a speed recovery!

Thank you!
More time and money wasted today at vestibular rehab: I'm feeling scammed by the medical "professionals" who are more like carnival hucksters with their expensive treatment that don't work. But for all the petty, lame, futile, frustrating, maddening, sad, sorry things we can see every day in our world, I'm looking for the light and bright. So your haike/photo prompt speaks to me. How easy to see goodness, beauty, hope, and light in an autumn day, even a gray day! A landscape with glistening leaves, an open field - ah, just what the doctor ordered. The "real" doctor, Mother Nature.

How easy to see
the world's goodness
in one damp autumn field....

How hard to find
anything good
in human affairs

wait, breathe -
Nature's hug silences
every noise

(a bit irregular, but we can do gendai also 😉)

Thanks for the SBI. And I agree with the judges decision of the worthy winner in carol's story. Lol, I was inspired by her tale for sure, and broke my rule about not reading another entry before writing my own. Hence the borrowed caterpillar 😂 I like to think it was a tribute to a fantastic story.

Thoroughly enjoyed writing for the the FTS comp once again. There is an element of fun in bouncing off someone else's beginning that is pure creative gold.

Thanks again almighty bananafish for bringing us a great creative prompt 🙂

We are honoured to have entertained and inspired you. You are great!

Thank you for all. I had a lot of fun with this story. We look forward to the next challenge.

Sure! We count on you! 😄

Congrats to all! When is the next contest?

When is the next round? I want one....

Hi, @tristancarax, @marcoriccardi, @bananafish

Can you plz tell me when is the new contest? I have a lot of work nowadays and am afraid to miss the announcement.

Thanks!

Hi @mgaft1 (and @oivas, to answer both)!
We still don't know when we will be able to do a new Finish the Story.
As good as it was to bring this contest back to life after a year, it takes time and a good story to use as a starting point, and our lives are busy.
We would like to do it again, but we cannot guarantee regularity, however you will be notified via the Discord channel and in the other Bananafish posts (for example those of the Mizu no Oto contest) when we are ready 😃

Okie dokie.. I get that.

Thanks!

Right now, I’m living in the street and have very limited access to charge. I have to wait before I can commit to doing another one. I’ll talk to Marco when I’m indoors and have internet about doubg this more often.

Sorry about it, buddy. Wish you all the best.
