One of the more interesting things to spot while you diving are the nudibranch, these colorful critters are really just the slugs of the sea but while the common garden wrinkly eats all your lettuce plants are a real pain arse. Nudies in the sea are much more fun to watch and spot. most of these have been spotted around Cebu and Southern Letye both are great areas for finding nudibranch of all kinds.
While you will find nudibranch in just about every sea in the world the Philippines is a real epicenter for different types there are literally thousands in all shapes, sizes, and colors
But first here are the main parts of your standard Nudibranch.
If you like them big you will love the Spanish Dancer here in the Philippines they seem to be a mottled red/orange
but the ones in the Red Sea are a dark Blood Red.
Most other nudies are much smaller but certainly no less colorful or strange-looking like this Glossodoris.
These Magnificent Chromodoris are quite common their Latin name is Chromodoris Magnifica, Even I could have worked that one out.
You often see Magnificents in groups so if you find one it's worth having look around for more.
Many nudies have unusual shapes like this Reticulidia.
This Glossodoris has a clutch of eggs. They don't usually hang around after laying so this one must be in the process.
You often see nudibranch egg coils on coral that look like flower petals more than eggs.
Some nudibranch resemble nothing you would ever see outside some alien life in a Star Trek movie such as this Phyllodesmuim
This Pleraeslidia looks more like a baby sea dragon than a slug.
Not everything crawling around on the bottom is a Nudi however, take this Sea Hare.
Or these Flatworms but it is easy to see how divers can be confused.
Well, Hivers that's all, for now, stay tuned and I'll showcase some more of the unusual sea creatures I see while diving another day.
Thank you for taking us on your underwater travels 😊
How beautiful beneath the sea is...sigh....
Thank you Tanja
Nudies certainly are one of the more unusual critters fascinating to spot and there are soooooooo many different ones.
Yes and that was what surprised me, that there are more species than the popular ones.
