Azraq Oshannus: The Journey to Becoming UNMADE — A Cinematic Lore Experience

Some legends fall in battle.
Others are defeated by fate.
But Azraq Oshannus — Lord of the Tide, Djinn of the Outer Water — suffered a fate far worse.

Greetings Splinterlands community!
@affliction here back with another Splinterlands lore video.
This week, we are focusing on how our favorite legendary water card from Chaos Legion era, Djinn Oshannus turned into Oshannus Unmade, the not so mighty card in Conclave Arcana reward set.
And we will be experiencing this story from the emotional point of view of Nahla Oshannus, the daughter of Djinn Oshannus, who is introduced as another new reward card in Conclave Arcana reward set.
The idea to create this came to my mind from a X post by @king-arminius.
And the concept how this video can be narrated by Nahla is inspired by the the new videos by @bravetofu.
In case, you did not check out these videos yet, do check them out. They are absolutely breathtaking.

Now let's do a deep dive on today's video.

  • Mana Cost: 5
  • Rarity: Common
  • Element: Water
  • Attack Type: Melee

Gameplay Analysis

Strengths

  • Full-line melee threat (Charge):
Surgeblade can attack from any slot, so you can safely tuck her mid-backline and still get consistent damage.

  • Answers Camouflage (Reveal):
From Level 3+, she becomes tech against Camouflage—perfect into Conclave/modern metas where Camouflage is common.
    Hive

  • Great scaling armor for 5 mana:
Going from 1 → 5 armor makes her surprisingly tanky in Water comps, especially with Protect/Repair support.

  • Blast finisher at max:
At Level 10, she turns into a serious AoE threat:
Charge + Blast = she can sit safely anywhere and still splash damage into clustered teams.

  • Fits melee-heavy rule sets:
Cheap enough for melee-focused lineups, yet brings utility, not just raw stats.

Weaknesses

  • Speed stays flat at 3:
She never becomes a true evasive threat; faster melee or ranged units can reliably hit her.

  • Low health, armor-dependent:
Once armor is stripped (Shatter, Rust, or repeated hits), her 4 HP at max is fragile.

  • Magic counters her hard:
No Void / Void Armor; magic ignores all that armor and shreds her quickly.

  • Needs levels to unlock utility:
L1–2 → just a generic Charged melee unit
Real identity starts at L3 (Reveal)
Full power only at L10 (Blast)

Best Rulesets

  • Melee Mayhem: Charge + decent damage lets her hit from anywhere with no downside.
  • Super Sneak: Charge gives reach from anywhere; Blast at max punishes clustered backlines.
  • Armored Up: Extra armor on top of her own turns her into a mini-juggernaut.
  • Target Practice / Fog of War vs Camouflage comps: Reveal makes hiding behind Camouflage much harder.
  • Up Close & Personal: Cheap, flexible melee attacker with late-game Blast payoff.

  • Mana Cost: 8
  • Rarity: Legendary
  • Element: Water
  • Attack Type: Magic

Gameplay Analysis

Strengths

  • One of the strongest anti-magic tanks in Splinterlands
Djinn Oshannus is famously durable against magic because:
    Void: halves incoming magic damage
Forcefield: any attack 5+ damage becomes 1 damage
    Phase: magic attacks can miss
This combination makes him one of the hardest magic targets to kill in the entire game.

  • High Speed = High Evasion
With 5 speed, Oshannus often dodges physical attacks too — especially in high-speed rule sets.

  • Very reliable in long battles
Since he doesn’t rely on armor or self-healing, he can outlast many teams simply by being difficult to remove.

Weaknesses

  • Ranged & Melee burst destroy him quickly
With zero armor, he is very vulnerable to:
    Sneak
    Opportunity
    Ranged focus fire

  • Melee front-liners in Melee Mayhem
He has no tools to resist non-magic damage.

  • Silence debuffs him heavily
Losing even 1 magic damage makes him feel underpowered.

  • Not ideal in Reverse Speed
His natural statline works against him in Reverse Speed rulesets.

  • Forcefield is situational
It only activates when enemies deal 5+ damage, which isn’t common outside giant melee attackers or stacked buffs.

Best Rulesets

  • Keep Your Distance: No melee = safer frontline for him.
  • Weak Magic: His lack of armor doesn’t matter at all.
  • Healed Out: He doesn’t rely on healing anyway.
  • Fog of War: No Sneak/Opportunity to punish his low defense.
  • Earthquake: High speed helps him dodge; magic attackers suffer.

103507Dispel, Snare, Lookout

  • Mana Cost: 6
  • Rarity: Common
  • Element: Neutral
  • Attack Type: Ranged Attack

Gameplay Analysis

Strengths

  • Utility backliner (Dispel):
From level 2 onward it can strip key buffs (Divine Shield, Inspire, Protect, etc.) from the target it hits.

  • Anti-Flying tech (Snare):
Starting at level 5 it becomes a great answer to Flying tanks or evasive backliners, grounding them and ensuring future hits.

  • Backline protector at max (Lookout):
At level 10 it reduces damage from Sneak/Snipe/Opportunity attacks against adjacent allies, making it a powerful defensive support piece.

  • Neutral = flexible:
Fits into almost any team/element that wants a safe, utility ranged attacker.

Weaknesses

  • Zero armor & modest health:
If it ever gets forced to the front line (or hit by Scattershot/magic), it can go down quickly.

  • No Close Range:
Once it reaches first position, it can’t attack at all.

  • Damage is good, not amazing:
2–3 ranged is solid but doesn’t solo-carry matches; it’s more of a support DPS + utility piece.

  • Needs levels to shine:
The real value (Snare + Lookout) comes online at higher levels, so in lower leagues it’s mostly “Camouflage + Dispel.”

Best Rulesets

  • Target Practice: Great synergy with Lookout and Camouflage; it protects your backline while safely dispelling targets.
  • Equalizer: Fixes its low HP, turning it into a very safe backline support.
  • Fog of War: Camouflage still keeps it safe while teams lose Sneak/Snipe; it can quietly dispel and chip away.
  • Armored Up: Dispel becomes extra valuable against enemy armor buffs & Protect.

The Video Narration

“My father, Azraq Oshannus, never feared Portia Nyr.
He told me, the night before he left, that he would refuse her request —
that the tides of Azmare would not bend to her will.”
“When he vanished the same day they were meant to meet…
I needed no confirmation.
The water carried no whisper of him.
The currents went still.
A Djinn of the tides does not simply disappear.”
“Portia did not slay him.
What she did was worse.
She unmade him.”
“I was not there to see it.
But I know how her power works.
To strip a Djinn of their element is to rip bone from flesh, and soul from form.
My father… melted under her hand, his body stolen, his life erased.”
“So I took the fight to the Conclave Arcana.
My blade sang with the fury of a drowning sea.
I broke their ranks, one by one, until water sprayed like shrapnel from my strikes.”
“For I am Nahla Oshannus.
Daughter of Azraq.
And I will carve the truth into those who stole him from us.”
