You ever played a "Play to Earn" game and pull something awesome only to realize it’s Soulbound and you can’t trade it? Yeah, that feeling hits hard. It’s like winning the lottery but not being able to cash in the ticket.

That’s why this new update from Splinterlands has me pretty excited. The devs are adding Unbinding Scrolls, a new system that finally lets us unlock and trade our Soulbound reward cards whenever and wherever we want. It’s not just a simple feature either. Unbinding Scrolls connects battles, crafting, land and the economy all together in a really smart way which lets you experience the whole circle in Splinterlands.

What are Unbinding Scrolls?


Unbinding Scrolls are basically the key to freeing your Soulbound cards. Before, if you wanted to make a card tradable, you had to burn DEC directly. This is basically the same thing but more interesting. Now, that process gets replaced with these special scrolls, and honestly, it feels a lot cleaner and more flexible as you use a consumable to do something in the game. It's like when you play those MMORPG and you have to upgrade your equipment and you use scrolls instead of just going through a menu screen. This has the same idea.

And before I forget, there’s one scroll type for every rarity, Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary, and you’ll need the matching type for whichever card you want to unlock. So, if you’ve got a Rare reward card from the Conclave Arcana set, you’ll need a Rare Scroll for each copy of it. One scroll per card, that’s the rule. Remember that you need multiple scrolls if you have a card that has been combined to level up.

Honestly, I like that this setup feels more like a progression system. It ties into the rest of the game’s features, which gives players more ways to engage instead of just burning currency and moving on.

How to Use Unbinding Scrolls?


Using Unbinding Scrolls is simple but it’s the convenience that makes it great. Let’s say you’ve got five Soulbound copies of a Common card you want to make tradable. You’ll just need five Common Scrolls to unlock them all. No complicated menus, no hidden requirements, just collect and use.

If you don’t have enough scrolls when trying to unlock, the game won’t stop you. It gives a quick option to buy the missing scrolls instantly using DEC or Credits. That’s huge for convenience because it means you don’t need to leave the screen or go searching the market manually.

And here’s a nice touch. If you want to directly support the devs, you can buy with DEC, the payment gets split 33% to the team, 33% to the DAO, and 34% burned. So, it helps fund the game development, helps with other projects like marketing, keeps the DEC economy healthy and you unlock your card. It's a win for everyone.

How to Get Unbinding Scrolls


Now, the fun part, how to get these unbinding scrolls? There’s actually a bunch of ways. You can get them for free with a little bit of grinding or using money.

First, you can buy them directly with DEC, priced at 5x Collection Power which sets a clear and fair value. You can also find them as loot in your daily and seasonal chests. That alone adds more reason to play the game since you can now get unbinding scrolls that you can use to opening rewards that you can sell in the market.

Then, there’s the crafting side. On Land, specifically in the Artisan Quarter, players can craft these scrolls using Aura and other land resources. This gives a big boost to Land owners as it adds more value to the game. The scrolls also become tradable items themselves. If you don't want to use them, you can sell them to other players.

Unbinding scrolls is not just a shortcut for unlocking cards. It actually connects multiple game features together: land, economy and rewards.

Important Reminders


A few things you really have to remember though. Unbinding Scrolls are only for the Conclave Arcana reward set. You can’t use them on older ones or future sets (at least for now).

Also, they have an expiration date. Once the print run for the Conclave Arcana set officially ends, the scrolls will expire 30 days later and get completely burned. The print run lasts for about a year so you will have time to use or trade them and you have 30 days on top of that. That means around a year and a month once the Unbinding Scrolls starts rolling.

For the crafting, each scroll rarity has a specific Aura cost.

Common: 100 Aura
Rare: 400 Aura
Epic: 2,000 Aura
Legendary: 10,000 Aura

Aura is a Land-exclusive resource, so Land owners now have a fresh reason to stay active and productive. It’s a small but good way to keep the Land economy alive while giving non-land players new trading opportunities.

How It Would Change the Meta

Now, for the community question.

Once players can start unlocking and trading Conclave Arcana reward cards, the ranked meta is going to shift fast. I expect there would be cheaper cards to buy and rent similar to Chaos Legion but not as cheap as that one.

A lot of strong reward cards have been trapped and stayed Soulbound, meaning you can't play them on higher levels as freely unless you max them out and maxing a card takes a very very very very very very very very long time. I remember really diving in Splinterlands Ranked Battles during the Rebellion release and after 6 months, I can only get my rare Ranked Rewards cards to level 5. Without the access to market to buy them alongside playing these cards, a year and a half of playing Splinterlands every single day is what you need to do. That's not a game at that point, that's a job.

But with this new system, everyone gets access, either by unlocking their own or buying from others.

We can see once again more quality battles. You’ll start seeing combinations and abilities that didn’t appear before simply because those cards were too limited. Some builds that relied on niche reward cards might become more common and counter-strategies will start evolving again.

It’ll also shake things up economically. Players who grind rewards might choose to unlock and sell duplicates, flooding the market with fresh cards while giving newer players a chance to catch up without waiting for new sets. Meanwhile, Land owners will have steady demand for crafting scrolls since more people will need them.

Overall, this feels like a system that balances both growth in Ranked battles and the Splinterlands economy. For me, the most exciting part isn’t just being able to trade Soulbound cards, it’s seeing how this will make ranked battles more unpredictable, creative and fun again.
