Interestingly that there are a lot more preset functions like doesExist is now available.
I used to write my own "does Exist" functions where I think I too need to have some upgraded knowledge of java script.
What you can do is to use it on UI (User Interface) instead.
For example in HTML.
Then you might have more fun learning both java script and making an interacting basic Web page for fun
